DO any of those old presses exist still in museums??
@Theandyhumphreys3 ай бұрын
Hello Alex, I do not know. At the time of filming - 1985 - there was only one press at the Telegraph on Fleet Street which shortly after was shut down when printing opened at Westferry. There is a newspaper printing museum on Fleet Street , next to St Bride's church - you could ask there - but these were big machines so I doubt they will have the space but they might know of one somewhere else. Sorry I can't be of more help. Thanks for your interest.

It's incredible they were even able to make a profit on newspapers, having to do this everyday. Seems like a machine of a mind control campaign, rather than a viable profit making machine.

Yes, that's the point of the title - to produce something as complex and far reaching as a newspaper everyday - was a "Miracle"! Thanks for your interest.

I’ve never seen such a bunch of unqualified bodge artists at work before. The original Green was on the inside of the door and used on the clock mechanism ironwork. But they couldn’t work that out 🤦🏻 what a terrible restoration. I hope they didn’t charge much 🤨

Hello to all. My name is Michael, and in the 80s and early 90s, I played several gospel shows with Junior when he played with Happy Melody Quartet, also known as the Calvary Mountain Boys from Sylva, N.C. Kenneth was also in the band as well. Junior was a quiet person, but the energy he brought with him was amazing. When he talked, he always had great stories of when he used to make shine. He told me one time that he made shine for more than 30 years and never was caught. He said,"they busted up my still from time to time, but I never was caught." Then he would smile and say, " I supplied all their parties in Atlanta." Junior had a great testimony and said, "that I didn’t drink much myself until I was older. As a result, I had lost all the mobility in my hands and was very depressed. One morning, I woke up and walked down to the creek that runs in front of my house. I had a 22 pistol that I kept in my back pocket. I was going to take my life. But before I did, I got down on my hands and knees in that creek and asked God if he would give me my talent back, I would never make or drink another drop." So to my knowledge he never did and I know for a fact that he played for several years driving all the way from Clayton to Jackson County North Carolina to get on a bus and travel all over to sing and play for Jesus. When I knew him, his hair had turned gray, and he worn glasses, but he still had that same kind smile that you see in this video. I hope I didn't write too much information here, but what a great testimony. His sons(Josh and Wayne) used to play at "The Stompin Ground" with Raymond Fairchild back in the day. They went by "The Crowe Brothers."I know someone who might have some old videos of "The Calvary Mountain Boys," which would have Kenneth and Junior in them. In closing, when someone mentions moonshine or blue grass music, Junior always comes to mind. He also had won several (I think three) banjo picking competition where he was state or national champion.
Really informative film, thank you for uploading. Some great insights into the politics surrounding major infrastructure investment with some interesting parallels to today's problems with HS2!

@Theandyhumphreys8 ай бұрын
Hello, That's because the British army fought in the Middle East during WW1 against the Ottomans - allies of the Germans - and Britain was given a mandate to govern Palestine until 1948 when Britain quit due to attacks from all sides and gave the territory to the UN and then the creation of Israel. Thanks for your interest.

Amazing when you look at technology now. I was luckily enough to go into the Evening Standards pressing plant (my beautiful mum worked there), she was a classified Ad Manager and was very popular there, all the guys loved her or knew her. She knew JAK the Evening Standard cartoonist, I met him, I was in my early teens visiting the place many times (Shoe Lane entrance), great memories & I still have some things from there

Something about looking into the recent past is calming. Also, it's interesting that the Telegraph invested in "the most advanced printing plant" in 1982, just 15 years before the internet became widely available. I wonder what the space is used for now?
@Theandyhumphreys9 ай бұрын
Hello Alan, Thanks for that. The point at the start was that there was lots of empty space in Docklands for the industry and its many trucks. Then housing sprang up and a big school by the front gate. It became untenable. Now, it is demolished by Richard Desmond - porn Czar - who was granted panning permission for housing. But then with the help of Robert Jenrick MP and Boris J , planned to make the development much larger without permission. It's been empty now for ???? dunno 1- -15 years. The usual mess.
