Very interesting, thanks for archiving this video as well as the community FM radio videos. I wonder what happened to John Garay? I knew him through CB radio in liverpool during the 1970's and last saw him at his home with Jim Tumeth in 1982.

Yes thank you! I watched Diabetes Australia I almost turned it offand I am so glad I didn't . For those who know the person who villainised Maryanne Demasi from catalyst for saying that low-fat diets aren't optomial for good health, just state the same thing on DA, I couldn't believe my ears! Too bad she lost her show and was villainised for saying so! I stand by Maryanne!

Thank you for providing these episodes. They are an "in a nutshell" overview of the many hours of a wide variety of videos that I have been watching on these topics. After starting low carb in Oct 2021 and remitting my diabetes, reducing my drug pressure and losing more than 20% of my starting weight, and waist going from 44" to 36", my LDL cholesterol has increased BUT my trigs have gone down and my HDL gone up giving me a good ratio (but the GP is using the TC/HDL ratio). I am metabolically healthy now with a recent CAC score of zero at the age of 65, yet my cardiologist and GP want me on a statin, with the GP (graduated in 2018 - so the fairly new generation of doctors are still believing the cholesterol causes heart disease) telling me that I am at a high risk of heart disease. I've said no to the statin, explaining that I believe that it's the inflammation that causes the issues and the cholesterol is the way the body repairs the damage and that I have done my own checking (much of it from medical professionals in various fields) and feel that I am making an informed decision about my health.

Yes Haleys comet was a bit of a fizzer when it last came out in 1986 but Comet Macnaught more than made up for it. I saw it myself from the front yard of my house. No need for binoculars or nothing. Its swirly tail took up half the night sky. Surprisingly it didnt make much media coverage and back then there were no smartphones or anyninwas aware of.

Hmmm, funny how KZfaq cuts out your audio soundtrack (probably some copyright infringement interpretation), funny how I'm not informed! I make no money from this post, let alone this channel. If anything I'm promoting a music track, (can't recall what I used as an audio bed for this posting anyway.) I've also noticed this whit ceratin bits of audio in a soundtrack, KZfaq, along with twitter and facebook, needs to make up its mind if its a utility, or a publisher, it can't hold both status's (or is that statii??)

Great compilation, exciting to watch. Have seen this comet from New Zealand a number of times. It caused traffic jams in places where there had never been traffic jams before, as many people went to see it around sunset. The most spectacular view for me was on Sunday the 21st of January 2007, after about a week of non stop cloud cover. By then the tail had grown to absolutely epic proportions, covering a large part of the southern sky. It was unforgettable. One tip, you may want to explore the origins of the Stonehenge photo, it may have been photoshopped? By the time the tail was the angular size shown in that photo, it was below the horizon at that latitude, as far as known to me. Anyway that aside, thanks again for the wonderful compilation.

They have been leaders in the science of cholesterol for decades. And yet there are cholesterol deniers who claim they have been in some way wrong about cholesterol for all these years. In this video, I'll assess the merits of the denialist criticisms made against these great scientists. > Transcript and sources: plantpositive.com/26-cholesterol-confusion-9-bro/ Brown & Goldstein 30m24s UTSWMed May 4, 2012 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/er14n9SBzbHOaWw.html > Drs. Michael Brown and Joseph Goldstein met as young residents at Massachusetts General Hospital in 1966 and struck up a friendship-and eventually a scientific collaboration-that has brought the two to the pinnacle of science. Early in their career, they came across an astonishing case: Two very young siblings were having heart attacks and had extraordinarily high cholesterol. Years of painstaking research at UT Southwestern would find the cause. > > Different in background and temperament yet similar in their devotion to science and discovery, Brown and Goldstein's groundbreaking work has helped save millions of lives. And it has inspired the research and careers of succeeding generations of leading scientists. "It wasn't necessary for us to impress the world. We were trying to impress each other," says Mike Brown of his longtime partnership with Joe Goldstein. Learn their story. Brown and Goldstein (U Texas Southwestern): Molecular Basis of Familial Hypercholesterolemia 20m18s iBiology Science Stories Sep 22, 2014 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gJxki8R4mrfPYKs.html > While post-doctoral fellows at the NIH, Joe Goldstein and Michael Brown were presented with a young patient with familial hypocholesterolemia (FH), a disease characterized by high LDL cholesterol and atherosclerosis. Scientific curiosity along with a desire to help these patients led Brown and Goldstein to dedicate themselves to understand the biological basis for FH. In their first talk, Brown and Goldstein describe the excitement of discovering that cells from an FH patient could not take up LDL cholesterol, which then led to the discovery of LDL receptors and the mechanism of receptor-mediated endocytosis. > > Biographies > Joseph Goldstein is Chair of the Department of Molecular Genetics at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and Michael Brown is Professor of Molecular Genetics and Director of the Jonsson Center for Molecular Genetics at UTSW. For over 40 years, Drs. Brown and Goldstein have directed a lab together and worked to understand the genetics and regulation of cholesterol metabolism. Together, they discovered that a defect in the uptake of LDL is a major cause of the human disease familial hypercholesterolemia. This work led to the discovery of the LDL receptor, receptor-mediated endocytosis, and mechanisms for regulating cholesterol synthesis and provided the foundation for the development of statins, drugs taken by millions to control elevated cholesterol levels. Their research has been recognized with the Albert Lasker Basic Medical Research Award, the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, and the National Medal of Science. Currently, Brown and Goldstein’s research focuses on the SREBP family of transcription factors and their role in regulating lipid metabolism.
