Good quality of water for pets can't hurt by removing fluoride through reverse osmosis and water distillation. Stop taxing the kidneys with high protein diets. Buy good quality dog food with little ingredients imported from foreign countries. Natural flavors usually means MSG. BTW great interview!

Thank you! We had to do this 18 months ago with our other cat but didn't remember the process when cat #2 also needed fluids. (She did not like and we only got 50 mls in, but better than nothing)

Our 15 year old Dachshund has this. Eliminate stairs for him. No jumping on or off furniture etc. Have a good relationship with your veterinarian because you’ll need meds to keep the dog comfortable when this happens. My dog has had many flares. We don’t crate him but confine him to a small space while he recovers. We go outside with him to encourage his poops because sometimes he hurts too bad to go. Puppy pads work too if they hold it. Gabapentin 100mg is one of the meds that is used along with others when he has back pain. Galliprant I think is another one, 1/4 pill. This has gone on for many years. They can live normally with this if they’re pampered. You learn what to do over time. I’m just throwing out some stuff that helped us. He hasn’t been down in his back for a year or so now. He walks in a leash. He’s old so he does a lot but he’s very happy even at 15.

Did your dog always stayed at the lower grades of IVDD? My beagle had 3 episodes of stage 1 and she is only 7 years old. Wondering if this will progress or there is a chance it will stay at manageable level?
@lamppole789613 күн бұрын
@@irinanikiforova6976 Our dog is 15 now and he’s always been fine after the “flare up”. He walks normally and enjoys his life. He’s really old now and sleeps a lot. My husband walks him around maybe 10 minutes a day..other than that he sleeps or goes outside when we do in our back yard. He’s had a great life and I believe it can be managed with pain meds to keep him comfortable. The only med we give daily is Gabapentin. We have been prescribed others and we have them here, but we feel this is all he needs. If for some reason he gets down in his back and looks to be in pain I’ll give him the other pill which I think is GALLIPRANT. 1/4 because he weighs just 25 lbs. Yes they can live a long time without problems if they don’t get on furniture or stairs etc. We’re so careful with his activities as to not aggravate his back. I am noticing him stumbling now on occasion but he’s very old and his back is probably worn out. He’s still happy though so until he’s in pain and needs surgery we won’t put him to sleep. I won’t do surgery at his age. Hope that helps.

Thank you for your EXCELLENT presentation. I lost my beautiful 12 year old female bichpoo 2 weeks ago from Dynamic Trachea and Bronchial collapse. At first her vet said she had congestive heart failure and put her on Vetmedin, furosemide, Trazadone, Enalapril and eventually on Hydrocode/homatropine. Her vet ordered X-rays and the report showed moderate left heart enlargement, consistent with mitral valve insufficiency, but no signs of congestive heart failure. Between February and March my dog had 3 episodes of acute respiratory distress. Your presentation really helped me to understand my dog’s condition with a collapsed trachea and bronchi and the anatomy of the trachea, lungs, the bronchial branches, etc. My dog couldn’t drink water without coughing. From birth she always would cough after drinking water and as she got older her illness got worse especially in the end. Sadly I had to have my beautiful dog euthanized. She was really suffering from the trachea and bronchial collapse. Moving forward I will read about the various health issues that dogs inherit or are born with BEFORE deciding on which pet to adopt. Thanks again!!
