I went out and had a bunch of pilchards that had been sitting in bucket from 7AM .... sent out a line with a smelly pilchard at about 3 PM ... wow caught a bunch of big mangroves. I think it was the bait... as these boys are sharp.

Looks like lots of work but fun too. I think you caught a false albacore or a little tunny and not a bonito. Both are a blast to hook on a fly, but the bonito is edible.

100% right, for whatever reason we call them bonito here in Florida, but it is not an Atlantic Bonito.

I’m throwing a surf candy that I tie with faux bucktail. I have a video how I tie it on this channel. I find it really holds up well to toothy fish. Rod is an Echo ERP 9’ 10#.

This trip was slow deep water and about a month after the salmon spawn. When the salmon are in the river we always check below them when they are on gravel, but me personally I rarely see steelhead.
