I potentially agree with you that the. Starfleet museum should be closer to Earth. But let's get a couple things. Starfleet is Earth's space force. The federation is a Is just that a federation of over a hundred and fifty different species or planets. So my first question, is it a starfleet museum or a federation museum? If it's a federation museum, then the museum should be centered in the middle of the federation, and if Earth is not the middle of the federation being in the alpha quadrant which we know it's not quite the center because there's also the Delta quadrant, the gamma quadrant, and the Beta. Why do we as (ex-)military professionals make extensive use of the exaggerations of a poet? Imagine that, a Navy Officer using an Army Operation as a metaphor for a Naval Operation. Did the Sea State at the time of the battle present a similar, if more fluid, situation to the battle of Balaclava or is the metaphor strictly referring to a lightly armed force attacking a more heavily armed force? To my mind the so-called Charge of the Light Brigade is overused in the same way Clausewitz is, distorting important details about the battle in order to make the lecture more "understandable" to a wider, less professional, audience.

Thanks. I n had the honor of helping design and then making the taffy3 memorial in san di a go. I met a few of the sailors. Hearing from these guys too just reminds me of the dedication loyality they a ll had and how that engagement was so amazing. On paper we woukd have lost. But these men are not paper sailors. Their bodies and souls gave all and the outcome surprised even them. I saw the bond they had w each other and especially to those who didn't make it. Working with them and interacting w them is one of the great points in my life. Regular guys who acted like superman.

I would think a first piece looked at would be security. That is why ours are in DC as it is one of the most secure places in the country, at least what's considered the government district. Outside of that is a half warzone but in it everything is secure. Now how better to increase that security then but only allowing people to visit it via holodeck? In a holodeck everything is real to the touch smell and other senses after all. The ships would have a actually location as they do to allow their safe protection. Someone pissed at the federation is not going to want to hit a museum who knows how far away from it's center but one right at it's core would be a target. Overall if we had that level of holotech our museums would be very much the same, everything far from actually people touching and yet easily accessibility to everyone. As for the space, yes SpaceDock is a massive space but it itself is also a piece of the museum so I see that as a fitting having so much space. As for the walking issue you would not be as even in current VR I would have to walk all over a museum, I can just see what I want and then go and check out other things later and I think that is what you had missed here. Pick up a VR headset and visit a museum with it and you will see how a holodeck Museum would work somewhat.

The USS Constitution is an odd bird. The ship itself is operated by the US NAVY Ceremonial Guard. The support faculty is run by the Navy Historical And Heritage Command.

You got to think of the Four Founding worlds of the federation. You can't have everything on Earth. Or in the Sol system. They already have Starfleet command the shipyards and etc. If Athan Prime is within the same distance from Vulcan, Andoria, Tellar Prime and Earth it makes more sense

Well while I'll agree with most of your assessment of this video, is 1 major discrepancy. The United States military does display many captured war trophy's in it's military museums. Tanks and Armored Personal Vehicles just to name a few. If the United States Navy would have captured the Bismarck or the Yamato, it's a guarantee those would be on display.

Love this! As someone who volunteers in the independent museum sector I had similar thoughts! The other question I'd have is... why aren't the ships all INSIDE, not only to protect them from radiator and meteors but also just to use the existing berths inside Spacedock?

I find the notion of learning about naval museums really cool and hence this was really cool. However.....I couldn't care less if the star trek representation of a naval museum is faithful at all to the real thing.

Its central to many other planets. Do you know how annoying is to go to the Smithsonian? Its so far!!! Its illogical. The station is most likely a retired space station, they dont have to show you everything just to satisfy your curiosity, it's probably a hotel too, Athan Prime is probably footing up the bill to maintain the museum because...they want to, the klingons don't care about ancient ships and most likely they okay it, the cloaking device is there for story purposes, Geordi runs the museum as part of the deal with Athan Prime, LaForge is playing it safe and is just coasting retirement because of his two daughters, at least one is close by.

I find your assessment very informative. However you overlooked one very important thing about the placement of the fleet museum. And that is plot armor. You can't have a fleet Museum where you're going to go get the ship that's going to rescue the Galaxy close to the point in space that being invaded or all shot up. And given how long it didn't take them to get to the fleet Museum I would guess it's not that far away from the Terran system

The Klingons ship are likely trophies claimed by the UFP while the Romulan ship is still there since the Romulan government has collapsed and no one is around to say that the Federation can’t have it in a museum.

I need point out that Starfleet didn't have problem with resources. With replicator tech that is most likely not a issue. But active shipyards probably did have limit on how many ships they could made, in relatively short time frame. Especially as it seems that many shipyards were closed after 23'th century. Still I would say largest bottleneck of Starfleet was the personel. It is why over time ships were heavily automated.

Thinking about this, while they call it the museum, it may just be the nickname, it is really more of a drydock. All the ships are functional so I can see them being lent out on tours, With replicators, maintaining the ships would be easier. They seem to use canned life support so you can fill the ship with inert gas when not in use. As for no one there, the major fleet day was taking place. Since the changelings were pulling strings, they would have not wanted the old ships around so did not request them. Star Trek also seems to keep people in grade longer with much longer tours. This may be due to humans living longer on average than now.
