Hi Chris, I don't envy you sorting the wiring, its a weak point on the TR7. As for the fuel tank, personally I don't see any point in a racing tank, its just more expense. But we all have differing ideas, as long as your enjoy the end result.

Mark, thanks for the comment. I'm going to leave the original tank in place, just bypass it. The next owner will be able to replace it. Far too much work changing it. Take care. Chris Robinson

Good job on sorting the grounding, that was a pain for me too all over the place when the car was left sitting in a garage for a few years. Using the car is the most important thing. My washer motor gave up the ghost yesterday, had to clean out the connection tubes on the unit itself! Not bad after 44 years!

Change the fuel tank to the alloy one they now sell, yes it’s a pain and a days job but worth it

I would think actually living with a rally/race fuel cell would get old pretty soon. Fueling first of all but there's venting and of course proper fuel lines and electrical if needed. Another complexity to chase on a sunny day in North Wales. Still, it seems like a quick and easy solution which if I remember can be one or the other not often both.

You're bringing back memories for me 😊. What sort of gearbox mounts are you using? If you're using the TR7 type the engine mounts will split pretty quickly - I always had to change to an SD1 type - a little fabrication needed.

Hi Chris, just watched your video, lovely stuff. I'm having trouble with my scrapheap challenge of a 74 range rover classic. Has previously been fitted with a 3.9L efi but looks like they share the same oil pump in this scenario. Hasn't ran in two years until recently after getting fuel to the engine. It runs rough and doens't like to rev up with only occasionally idling. Have checked many possibilitys already but am next onto oil pressure. Should have been higher up on the list i know, guage wasnt hooked up as it turns out and so when i wired to the oil pressure sender unit on the pump, the guage goes to max pressure on turn of key but then falls to nothing when engine is 'running'. Am i to presume i have wired it up correctly and there is no oil pressure for the hydrolic lifters which will cause the terrible running? And as far as fixing this issue, i'm thinking of just packing the oil pump gasket full of grease to hopefully create a seal. I'm guessing I'm going to need to prime that thing too so out comes that distributor too...Am I on the right tracks for all this? Cheers
@chrisrobinson61
@chrisrobinson61 Ай бұрын
Firstly you must get Oil pressure. The Oil pump does not self prime. You can buy the tool to fit down the Distributor hole. Just make sure when you remove the Distributor, the engine is at TDC for number one cylinder. Check this by taking the Rocker cover off. With this off you will see Oil coming out of the Rocker shaft. It also sounds like the oil pressure gauge sender wire and the oil pressure light have been mixed-up. Check online which is which. What fuel delivery system are you using. EFi or carbs?
@jamesfry8520
@jamesfry8520 29 күн бұрын
@@chrisrobinson61 yes oil pressure is a must, the oil in it looks good from the dipstick so thats something. Yes I understand that, although won't turning the engine over with spark plugs out do the same thing (have seen this done by someone else and worked fine). Smart to take the rocker covers off anyway however just to have a look, I will need to do some research on how to go about adjusting tappets when it has hydrolic lifters, they're a first for me. Yes that would make sense with the oil pressure light, do you know where is the oil pressure guage sender supposed to be located as the internet has not been much use so far for me. Am rocking the EFI system which ive been swearing 'at' not 'by' haha but thiking that might all change if that wasn't the reason why its not running correct. Cheers

One TR7 rebuild would be hard work Chris but two others as well as a bike!, your doing well, I have only my MGTF and its done now, but even one old car keeps you busy, I am aiming to have a TR7 coupe again in the future but I think the two litre will do me, the one I had was great, can't see me finding a good one very easily but I hope so in a couple of years.

Hi Chris, lost track a bit, why did you remove the sender? was it leaking? Testing the sender unit when it is in the empty position you should have nearly zero ohms, which will bypass the delay unit to maintain the low fuel light on the dash, plus the empty position on gauge.
@chrisrobinson61
@chrisrobinson61 Ай бұрын
Nothing worked, Low level light and the fuel gauge. I suspected it was the sender unit. As it happens it appears it wasn't. I'm going to check the wiring to the sender tomorrow. I'll post another video tomorrow with my findings, that's if it isn't raining. Take care. Chris Robinson

Maybe you can get it altered, I would think twice about it being so close to the starter, all that heat might damage it, also can you remove the starter with the manifold in place. Hope it works out Chris.
