They're rereleasing these in the UK within a week. I think they are releasing 1) a box set containing seasons 1-2, 2) a box set containing only the later TV movies and 3) the ultimate set containing everything. The TV movie set has separate original artwork for every movie. I own this exact Shout! box already so I'll be getting only the TV movie set from the UK. I don't think Shout! ever released the TV movies in the USA

Rom's a nostalgic trip for me. I enjoyed the single issues back in the 80's, although not in sequence. It was a time when comic book distribution wasn't great and comic book shops didn't exist. Whether or not you want to pick up the 3rd volume is entirely up to you. How did you find the stories? Did you enjoy it enough to pique your curiosity to continue reading the subsequent stories? If so, then by all means get it. If not, then there's no point spending money on an omnibus. Even at discounted prices, they still cost a pretty penny.

I read these as a kid. In fact, I actually started getting the toys due to my love of the comic. It’s been over 40 years, so I can’t remember much of the story… but I do remember that I liked it enough to stay with it through both runs (which is saying something, considering my attention span). I bought the Omni but haven’t had a chance yet to sit down and read it.

Someone in a comment on Amazon said Secret wars II issues were also in other Omnibuses, but so far, I saw was maybe in John Byrne Fascistic Omnibus. Definably not he John Byrn Alpha Fight Omnibus. I got the Hulk Tie in after reading the issue after that saying the Beyonder was there and later the Avengers one in the late 1980's. They later damaged in a flood, but replaced Hulk and more recently got the Epic collection.

The issue of Doctor Stange also had Eternity which you asked who his name was. I recognize him from Marvel Saga and an article that showed Dorminnu attacking him.

I'm English and I had the Rom action figure, it was part of the Action Man range made by Palitoy in the UK. Also managed to pick up most of the comics from my local newsagent as they came out, not bad considering the patchy distribution that we got in the UK before comic shops were a thing!

I read these as a kid, but only up to issue 10 or so. Michael Golden was the best artist for this and when he left I began to lose interest. Would like to have seen the various artists pointed out after Golden, I saw some Howard Chakyn and I think Ditko? Pat Broderick was good also, but none of them had the aesthetic appeal of Golden's work. The Micronauts copied a lot from Star Wars but were also pretty original in some of the characters and concepts. Thanks for the review.

I think the next volume will be the final one. I love Rom. It was one of my favorites as a kid. I long ago gave up on any hope of ever seeing it collected as Marvel’s licensed stuff from back then rarely is collected. These Omni’s are a dream come true.

Like you, I also didn't collect ROM comics or the toys. I think I do have a couple of issues, though. Likely some of the guest appearances. Regarding the omnibus size, however, I prefer these slimmer volumes as they are easier to handle and read. Monsters like the Fourth World books are just too unwieldy. These ROM books, Master of Kung-Fu, Micronauts, etc are far better for that, IMO.

What did I just watch?!?!?! I should have gotten a tax deduction for sitting through it!!! No opinions, no synopsis, no mention of Alan Davis , Mark Famer or how this came out of Mutant Massacre. What was the point????

I own this one, it's an incredibly neat collection. You got a sweet deal for less than $60. I usually don't buy these kind of books hot off the press, I definitely wait for Black Friday discounts or big sales. Really love the George Perez art too! I don't think the team-up stories are not in here; like Marvel Team-Up with Spidey or Marvel-Two-in-One with Thing. I agree, it was awesome to see her on the big screen. I don't know if they'll ever team her up with Daredevil like they did in the comics.

Adventures Of The Outsiders continued the numbering from #33, May 1986 to #46, June 1987 and inevitable post-Batman cancellation. There've been intermittent revivals of Batman and the Outsiders since.

The size is definitely a disadvantage with these monstrous omnibuses. I'd rather they split these into two or three volumes to make the reading experience more pleasant!

I bought the whole series of Countdown and TV Action (its successor) comics when they came out back in the 70's in New Zealand. Managed to buy seven original copies of Countdown and three of TV Action a few years back for only twenty five bucks for the lot.

There is a special Blu-ray release with a few commentaries and signed photo cards limited edition

Chris Claremont was already writing X-men but Byrne started after Iron Fist #14 on X-Men #108.

I purchased it a while back very cheap even though by today's standards it's not the best adaptation of the characters (especially if you are not a fan of the campy Batman comics from the 50s/60s before the character's dark and gritty reboot in the 70s), but the series was very well made with amazing sets and props (although, like Star Trek, they pretty much abandoned physical sets in the last season to save money). The colors are astounding, and it was a very faithful adaptation of the comics of the era. Those who are fans of Hollywood's Golden Age will get an added kick out of seeing A-list actors appear on the series. It's a great Blu-ray set, but it's not for those who prefer a more realistic and brooding Dark Knight.

Sony is now in control of the distribution for physical media for Disney so I’m assuming they have to figure out what they can do before Disney/ fox approve everything. I’d hope they include the tv show & animated series in the 4K set. I’d hope for an alternate cut of the original like we got for the last 2 sequels.

I never read the original copies but read them on reprints on different paper with more than one issue together. Not all fo the were reprinted, so I bought some later issues through mail order. I did not get all of the rest, but some of the issues that were left off. I also bought the annuals and saw one of the pages of annual one that showed the Fantastic four were in it and I bought that after. I also bought some of the issues from the second series. Unfortunately, they were damaged in a flood in the house I live in now. My father told me to keep the in his and my mother's basement. So far this video I do not see any of the letter's pages included. It seems like most of the comics after the 1970s do not have their letters included except for some of the X-Men -men Ones.

I came back and rewatched this review. On Free Comic Book Day my local shop had 20% off back issues and to show what little regard this era still has... I picked up JLA 233-237 for 80 cents each, all in probably F to VF condition. That includes the four-issue Rebirth saga (the covers of which fit together to form a poster-sized piece of art). I hope they reprint the Detroit Era Omnibus, BUT... revise it to add a ToC and do something with the blank pages (looks like a printing error if not for page numbers). Add the letters pages! I wasn't a big fan of the All-Angst-Era of Comics from X-Men to Teen Titans to New Mutants et al. but would give Conway's crack at the genre a fair shake.

Great review, Omega Blu! I am definitely gonna buy this one. So many memories came back as you flipped the pages. Like I had the first part of the Psycho Man story but not the second! The reason why was I was 12, 13 or so and living on an allowance, so I had to be judicious in what books I bought. Micronauts was pretty low on my list, but I always remember liking the ones I had. I especially liked the first Annual by Ditko, and was delighted to see he also drew the second one! I love Pat Broderick's work, but Chaykin's looked bad here (paired with a poor inker, I suspect). The book went direct sales only at some point, and I noticed the UPC box disappeared near the end of this omni. I was buying Ka-Zar at the time, so again didn't follow Micronauts. I like the idea of getting this series and having a pretty self-contained world to immerse myself in, kinda like Adam Strange. Also the Ant-Man and Man-Thing stories weren't available to include in their Epic and omnibus, respectively, s here's my chance to nab 'em. And almost all of this series will be new to me. Thanks for the overview and recollections. I think that first issue Cockrum cover is imprinted in your mind (as it is in my own) because Marvel advertised the heck out of this title back in '79 and that cover appeared in every Marvel title. PS: Just like Rom, I never had the toys, and can't remember ever seeing them for sale.

I'm glad you reviewed this one. What a big break from other omnibi in format, such as the table of contents. I never had the ROM action figure but did read the comic back when I was 12 till about 13 or 14. I enjoyed it at the time but looking back--ugh. Bill Mantlo and Sal Buscema were hacks who could churn out reams if books. Just seeing Sal's work as you flipped pages just deflated me. So many stock poses, trapezoid mouths. When I finally saw THE INVADERS television show I began suspecting from where ROM's concept was swiped; that and the 1975 Ghostbusters show with Forrest Tucker and Larry Storch. Rom's gun was a lot like their Ghost Dematerializer. I'll be hard passing on ROM, though may spring for Mantlo's Micronauts with that Michael Golden artwork. PS: I appreciate that you buy your own books and give honest reviews. Two other popular KZfaq "critics" O and KF get freebies and fall over themselves thanking their benefactors at Marvel before gushing over literally every book they get. That shameless hucksterism wears thin fast.

It's weird I always assumed if it's on bluray that it's automatically remastered HD... but I guess that's not the case? Recently I learned that there is a thing called SD on Bluray... which means that take SD content but put it on blurays and quite honestly, I wish they would do that more as long as they specifiy that it's SD on bluray... The reason is... Imagine getting a complete series of a show on DVD.... You can keep the DVD quality but drastically lesson the amount of discs.. Imagine a full season on one disc... DVD quality yes... but still... as long as I KNOW it's SD when buying it... I would be totally OK with that.

Freiberger also was responsible for considerably dampening down the steam punk elements of "The Wild, Wild West" in its last 2 seasons. He's the reason Doctor Lovelace barely appeared in seasons 3 and 4.
