I don’t think smoking is allowed in the resort.. as I remember not smelling the smoke anywhere .. but it has a few hookah tables that you can reserve.

I have been to this great resort twice and stayed in the Spa section. The two main beaches at this resort are superb. The staff is wonderful so I bring them plenty of gifts . I will return to this beautiful spot .

a colectivo van that runs from Costa Mujeres to Cancun and then a "R1" bus to the hotel strip. The colective's driver dropped us off right where all these R1 buses park. So we just hopped on the 1st R1 bus.

At the resort, the adults section has a separated check in lobby, separated pool and 2 a la cart restaurants … everything else is shared at the big main building, which has the regular and star class check in area, main buffet and a la cart restaurants, fuel coffee shop, cinema theatre, gym, spa, shops and an open stage area in the middle …. Nightly activities happen here in this main building

Cubans are not allowed on the island unless they work at a resort or they are a guests at a resort. Tourists can be on any beach but you are not allowed to use the chair/shade, can't have a drink or food. That is what I understand.

I've visited Cuba numerous times, including Cayo Santa Maria. You cannot use the beach or access the property if you are not a hotel guest, and this applies to the majority of hotels. We attempted to enter other hotels a few times but were turned away by hotel staff. It all comes down to tourists safety. Hope this helps.
