This is the best series on kayak sails I have ever seen. Superb explanation and execution, this has helped me so much, especially as it is advised to practice, practice, practice, before going on the water. Thank you for taking the time and trouble to post.

are you saying you can sail against the wind by putting sail to one side? If you can only go down wind. You would have to paddle back?
@user-xv1pt8km5c2 жыл бұрын
Where do you place the keel? Taking into account that the sail is located so far forward (spinnaker) do you place the keel in the center of the kayak or more forward, three quarters of the length, bringing it closer to the bow?
@TheRealGrandadNo12 жыл бұрын
This kayak does not have a keel, nor by the looks of it a rudder.

Thanks, man! Like Deefer below I had watched 5 other videos and was just about ready to use the "bin method" when I clicked on your vid and folded my said in 10 seconds. You, sir, are a foldsmith. Thanks.
@deefer3052 жыл бұрын
This is the best demonstration of how to fold these thing up on KZfaq. I got my sail folded first go after watching this demo, that's after many previous failed attempts. Now I can fold it whilst sitting in the kayak and redeploying in seconds.

Couldn't you tie it to one end of the paddle then have the other end of the paddle trailing in the water behind you acting as a rudder? And the paddle could be partially supported on your shoulder. That way the sail can be easily held up and you can control both sail and rudder together at once.

Hi Darren! I see you shot this video 8 years ago. I'm looking for best "WindPaddle" type sail on the market today in 2021. Has anything been improved? I have an inflatable kayak full deck. I am looking to do Great Glen challenge in Scotland and sail would help me to get across 23 mile (36km) long Loch Ness. Many thanks

Got any tips for repair of the frame or a substitute frame in flexi metal of some sort that won’t snap?

I just got my new WindPaddle. Yes, someone is Australia still (Dec 2020) has them for sale. I find your "chin to win" (or whatever it is) is the worst mnemonic i've ever heard. I find the "official" method of folding easier than your methods. I do appreciate your other WindPaddle instructional vids, though.

A helpful series. People should use a wind muff on the mike to make these videos. It's a problem for the sound on so many KZfaq videos.

I should say i have also put my paddle in down the side of my boat ( i have a rudder) and use it as a leeboard so you can point a little best only trying this in fairly calmer conditions, it i think only going to work a bit and only with a rudder be safe and practice in a sheltered bit with a little bit wind be safe remember your safety is in your hands good luck .

Ps i have used it as a kind of sea anchor a little.

I have used a golf umbrella for years definitely good fun i put 50 lb break and strain line from each arm of it back to the main shaft , a small float so it wont sink , that way if it gets hairy you can just let it go and it floats and still retrieve it
