For question #3, why could we have not resolved this with a Remote Desktop Connection?
@JarrelRivera
@JarrelRivera 12 күн бұрын
Thanks for the query. In the lab scenario, the PC is unable to connect to the internet because of misconfigured IP settings. One of the key requirements for a remote desktop connection is access to the network - whether via LAN or via the internet - which are not available hence, remote desktop is not a viable option.

quick question! 6:05. on this question c the manual ip address did not match the network. why is this? what about it didn't match the network?
@JarrelRivera
@JarrelRivera 19 күн бұрын
Thanks for the question. The only thing that we did in the lab was to change the IP address from manual assignment to DHCP which then resulted to the network being up again. Hence, we know that there's something wrong with the manual IP assignment. When you do the lab, you can also run ipconfig after changing into DHCP so you can compare the old vs the new IP addresses. I hope this helps.

quick question! the question at 10:30 is interesting. if you're just going to log into your routers page, wouldn't just having an apipa address be sufficent? why do you need to configure a static ip address? i undertand dhcp may not be working correctly, so that makes sense, but an apipa is link local, and your local router is...well local. so wouldn't you be able to go into the router log in just fine with an apipa? just do an ipconfig and navigate to your local gateway?
@JarrelRivera
@JarrelRivera 27 күн бұрын
Thanks for the query. If the router and the PC are both in the 169.254.x.x network then the PC will be able to reach the router. However, if the PC is on 169.254.x.x network (APIPA) whereas the router IP is 192.168.1.1 then the PC will not be able to reach the router as they are on different networks. I hope this clarifies. The premise of the question is that the router's IP address is 192.168.1.1 hence, the proper response is to configure the PC with a static IP on the same network. I hope this clarifies.

@JarrelRivera
@JarrelRivera 27 күн бұрын
Thanks for the query. In many of the router interfaces nowadays, you may see 802.11bgn, or 802.11bg, etc. This basically means that the setting is compatible with IEEE 802.11b, 802.11g and/or 802.11n. I hope this clarifies.
@disturbed4everluke
@disturbed4everluke 28 күн бұрын
quick question! you say at 7:00 that ap1 and ap2 are on different networks, and that makes sense, but for a class a address only the first 8 bits are the network address yes? so shouldn't 10.1.0.2 and 10.254.0.2 be on the same network? because they have identical network addresses? just the 10. part? the first octet? thanks for the videos!
@JarrelRivera
@JarrelRivera 27 күн бұрын
Thanks for the query. If classful addressing is used (class A - 255.0.0.0) then 10.1.02 and 10.254.0.2 are indeed in the same network. In this laboratory, my assumption was that variable-length subnet masks are used because for routers and firewalls, their interfaces need to be in different networks, especially for internet and guest networks. Such that, 10.1.0.2 (internal LAN) and 10.254.0.2 (guest) are on different networks. I hope this clarifies.
@disturbed4everluke
@disturbed4everluke 27 күн бұрын
@@JarrelRivera ah thank you! i didn't think about it not having a straight /8 notation. if i'm understanding correctly, since the two addresses are on different vlans, they are segmented, they could both have the same network bits and not be on the same local network? or is the subnet mask actually different meaning they still do have a different network id, it's just a /7 for example instead of a /8?
@JarrelRivera
@JarrelRivera 26 күн бұрын
@@disturbed4everluke Each subnet would be on different networks. For the laboratory, it is possible that they might be on /16 hence, 10.0.01 and 10.254.0.1 are on different networks. The use of different subnet mask, as compared to the typical masks for each IP address class is known as classless addressing. I hope this helps.

Thank you for the contribution. I understand that this may have been the CompTIA exam steps. However, I would not recommend assigning the role of Key Recovery Agent to the administrator account in any production environment. This should be its own account with limited permissions. It only needs read and enroll pemissions on the Key Recovery Agent template, and certainly not system-wide or domain-wide admin access. In my opinion, a proper walkthrough on this would include the creation of a dedicated Key Recovery Agent user. The account must be a user account, and cannot be a Managed Service Account (MSA) or Group Managed Service Account (gMSA). This limitation exists because you cannot enroll an MSA or gMSA account with a certirficate. You will get a failure message telling you that the account does not exist. Therefore, I recommend either configuring it for access limited to a smart card, or regularly swap its password. Do not set this account to password never expires. Never use this account for anything else. It should only ever logon when needed.
@JarrelRivera
@JarrelRivera 29 күн бұрын
I agree! It is indeed a good practice to have various role-based accounts with limited permissions rather than having a system-wide admin. The laboratory for Security+ has then been updated with this note, that an admin access is used only for laboratory purposes.
