I've always been interested in a Bivvy bag. I only camp in the local Woods about ten mins from my place, so weight isn't an issue. It just seems like a cool experience. 😂 I got a weird korean made tent from ebay years ago, and it's been through rain, cold, hot allsorts, and only the zip on the outer bag went last year. Haa!

great video man, how did you find alcohol fuel for your stove, was it easy to find along the trail? Also what was the longest food and water carry you had to do on trail?
@CaptainCamp
@CaptainCamp Ай бұрын
Hi! I started with my 250 ml alcohol bottle filled and only had to buy refill one time, if I remember correctly. But I did not cook all the time (cold soaking + snacks). "Alcool à brûler" can be found in most larger shops, especially the French ones as it's a common fuel. I bought a 1 liter bottle in Gavarnie and refilled my small bottle. I left the 1 liter bottle in a small hut named Cabane des Aires, right before the challenging climb of Pic de la Géla (part of the Whiteburn route, not the Tom Martens route). You might also find remains in small huts 😎👍 My longest food carry was from Gavarnie to Besurta/Bernasque (part 3 of my videos). It was 100 km (5 days) without resupply, over the hardest and highest terrain of the HRP. Again, this was the Whiteburn route, I think the Tom Martens route enables resupply in Parzan and maybe other places on that section. Hike your own hike 😎👍 Water carry: Once you're really in the mountains, let's say from about Lescun until Pic du Canigou, usually there is plenty of water to be found. Filtering water using a Befree or Sawyer filter is a good idea because of cattle. I lost my filter halfway but survived. My water shortage problems occurred in the first week (especially day 2) and the last week. In those parts I recommend having a water carrying capacity of 3 liters and refill it completely when possible. From Lescun until Pic du Canigou I only used one 1,5 liter bottle 😎👍 Thanks for watching and good luck on your future adventures! 😎👍

Sorry to say this but my 4.05 ounce Dyneema floorless tent is 4 ft X 8.5 ft X 3.5 ft high, sits in the palm of my hand or pocket, all glue construction, waterproof zippered entry/exit, waterproof zippered vent with mosquito netting and hood. It has a 300 test pound loop at the peak for hanging it by 8 or more methods plus using a tree limb or other pole like support. Your body will suffer from lack of sleep during wind, cold wind, rain, snow and sleet falling and sweeping across the bivy bag lacking clearance within for your body with the bag lying upon you.

What brand? 😎👍 This is an old video, I should make part 2. To me it all depends on the situation now which is better.
@ULperformance

Sorry that I didn’t state that my 4.05 ounce tent is a DIY. Dyneema is extremely expensive, but I found a way to make tents at reasonable cost owing to the trigonometry method I employ.

Hi, curious about your plans, first two weeks in June may be far too early for Triglav. You can expect lots of snow at higher elevations, and closed huts. Also be careful if you plan to camp wild, this is strictly forbidden. Good luck in any case.

To me it's okay 😎👍 Nowadays I see it as a situational piece of gear. In some situations (steep mountains, stealth camping) it's the best. But other situations (thru-hikes, group trips) a tent is more comfortable 😎👍

A mylar "space blanket" works well on top of cedar bark around buildings. It keeps the itchy bark off while allowing you to sleep away from the sidewalk and safe next to a building.

Great stuff. I have a small bivybag, more as a ekstra layer outside the sleeeping bag. It is great for good weather conditions as a backup if the rain is surprisingly coming. Bring av poncho or tarp your head will be dry. It is never wrong to bring a poncho according to temperature anyhow. But if the weather is fine this sleeping system gives a great feeling of freedom. The bivybag protects the sleeping bag from gretting holes and dirt. Protect my face by having a bugnet over my head.

The big disadvantage with sleeping on you side on the ground is that you have more of you body in contact with the ground. And huddling in a foetal position is essential in extreme cold emergencies. Falling asleep on your back at a full stretch could even be dangerous.

Check out cowboy camping with a wool blanket as well, you can't get the benefit of a fire with a bivi because sparks may melt it, but wool is flame retardant.
