Reminds me of the line from Rilke - "When anxious, uneasy and bad thoughts come, I go to the sea, and the sea drowns them out with its great wide sounds, cleanses me with its noise, and imposes a rhythm upon everything in me that is bewildered and confused."

You should search up Korean Carpentry. Yes Japanese carpentry is good and I love it but Korean carpentry can be better in traditional house and temple building.

For anyone who is able to, I would highly recommend visiting the Takenaka Carpentry Tools Museum in Kobe, Japan and the Kigumi museum in Shinjuku. Both (especially Kigumi) have hands-on exhibits of these kinds of Japanese joints. It's one thing to see them in a video, it is quite another to be able to touch them and feel how they connect for yourself.

Thank you so much for the kind word. Your mom's work has a special place in my heart, and I love going as often as possible. My kids are big fans too. I briefly met your mom when she was building it, she was very kind to stop for a few minutes and chat. I shot more footage a couple of weeks later, when the Seppuku Pistols played on top of it, but I realize that I haven't uploaded it. Hopefully soon.

@@DavidinSetouchi I camped there many nights. From Waddo last Shodoshima cycling video, seemed like a few temples has been deserted of not having any caretakers?
@DavidinSetouchi
@DavidinSetouchi Жыл бұрын
I'm not exactly sure (and I don't know who Waddo is, I guess I can look them up), but it's not uncommon for small temples and shrines to be deserted in appearance as in "no one is there full time" but still being taken care of. I would assume it could be the case to some of the Shodoshima pilgrimage temples.

I have no clue when (and if lol) I'll be able to visit Japan/Kagawa so it's always so nice to see you posting new videos, especially the little atmospheric bits like just walking around, seeing a ship come by etc 😭❤ I think you're doing pretty good with the vlogs, you're not trying to put on a fake character so it doesn't come off as forceful or awkward in any way.
@DavidinSetouchi
@DavidinSetouchi Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind comment. Yes, I hate most vlogs for the reasons you mentioned, but more generally speaking, I don't like to be in front of the camera much, simply because I don't think I should be the focus of these videos, but rather the places themselves. If I have something to say, I usually prefer writing it. With that being said, I kinda want to make a longer débriefing of this Triennale and seeing how much time and energy to write long form texts I have these days, I may just do it as a video if I want to do it in a timely manner. We'll see.

Hi, and thanks for stopping by. I believe that the English title is simply Ponyo. The movie takes place in the Seto Inland Sea, so who knows? maybe Miyazaki saw such a scene and that inspired him for the scene with all the boats?

@DavidinSetouchi
@DavidinSetouchi 3 жыл бұрын
