Upload more of these, soundtracks from these films (Mean Streets, etc) you’ll get a lot of views. Even the simple Sinatra ones.

I was looking at a discussion on Audiokarma(I believe) about this album, and maybe what is the best version. It's all analogue, I believe.

The frequency response of one of them is wrong. I'm putting my money on the Rega - sounds too dark and bassey.

I like the non-linear eq/dynamics of the RCA for guitar amps, but the Mullards for hi-fi are just great! Both had their strong hold tho

Rega is dryer. it has much more space and quietness between sounds - this is, i think, because rega's turntable does not vibrate as much as technics.

Can you please do a video explaining how to change tubes on a project tube box ds2? I’d like to try but I’m a newbie and I hear it’s tricky! No how to videos on KZfaq. I’m sure it would get some interest!

Some thoughts - did you try swapping carts to see if the difference you hear is due to manufacturing variations in the carts? Were both turntables set up optimally - both perfectly level, tonearms, carts/styli aligned correctly, stylus weight, tonearm level correct?

One factor not mentioned here is the upgradability of the Technics. The bearing can be serviced for example or the headshell can be replaced with one made from Ebony. But the best upgrade is the feet. The feet on the SL1200s are dreadful. But for a hundred bucks you can get Isonoe Feet (in effect mini trampolines) or Maglev feet from Ali Express for even less. This lifts the unit to Planar 10 levels. Another meaningful upgrade is to open the chassis and from inside and also from underneath Dynamat can be placed. This all means that micro-vibrations are all but eliminated. But even without any of this why would anyone take a belt drive when a direct drive can be had for less.

I have the Rega P3 50th anniversary deck, Nagaoka MP-200 cart. I believe in a blind test, you wouldn't be able to distinguish one from the other. Both sound great to me.

Thank you for the video, very nice and concise. I had the chance to listen to an earlier model 'TECH-nics SL1200 at my cousins', years ago. It was great how much 'good forward' sound emerged from it. I own a P6 for half a year now (MC) and still, I recognize pretty exactly what sound it produces in your video. My opinion: please listen to the piano harmonics in the Queen track to find the Planar 6 has far more wide frequency 'analogue' (yeah, I said it) sound there! 🇳🇱

How do you find the Cadenza Bronze vs. Cadenza Red? Do you prefer one over the other? Wondering what you're hearing when comparing the two or how you'd describe the differences. Both sound pretty great.

In most videos, I cannot hear the difference between tubes. In this case, I definitely heard a slight crisper articulation in the top end on the mullard.

I found the Technics to be slightly harsher in the end of side 'mistracking' zone. The Rega handled itself better and with more depth and detail. I would not describe the Rega 6 as an entry level turntable though! That would be the P1 or P2.

Listening with headphones, the SL-1200 sounded better to me. Much more width and sounstage. The only one that was not better was the Otis Redding track. The biggest weakness of the SL-1200 is the tonearm wire and I think if that is changed out to match the whatever tonearm wire is in the Rega, I think there would be a bigger difference there. The SL-1200 tonearm wire is just not a good match for MC carts and even MM carts can sound kind of dull. I think that is what was going on here. But the first jazz track and the Queen track sounded much better on the 1200 becuase those tracks did not have as much low background information that really shows the difference in tonearm wire, but it did show the difference in the tables for sure. The Rega on that first track just sounds flat compared to the 1200.

Just got back to this channel, and I am really glad I did, love your videos. I have been enjoying my RP6 for quite some time, and its present coupling with a Hana ML makes it a winner for me, especially with jazz , classic rock and soul.

Agree with you, the Tung sol and and Telefunken were more similar than they were different from each other. The greatest difference was with the Mullard. They seemed to offer a better overall balance, lacking the tendency to be sharp or display an over emphasis in the upper mid/treble. The Telefunkens especially were very strident and at first seemed to have more gain but it was already a feeling of someone messing with the tone controls. Where the Mullard is just more refined across the tonal picture and for me is the clear winner. Its the combination I would listen too over longer periods. I am referring of course to music reproduction not instrument amplification which what I use tubes like these for.
