im really struggling with copper plating a 3d print i used a graphite paint that stated specifically for electro playing, i buffed it too, i have tried to use copper acetate insteaf of copper sulphate, as i had acetic acid already how ever no matter what i set the voltage or current to, i get minimal plating that is spotty, and the part ends up covered in a brown crud instead, what am i doing wrong ?

Hey does anyone know if anyone who does electroplating for larger items without breaking the bank? I’m not in a position to try it myself at the moment, so I wanted to get a 15in 3D print gold plated by someone else. Most people I’ve found don’t do bigger items understandably.

The process is insane. Thx for sharing. Wouldn't it be easier to 3d print with zinc? Not doable? Or any other forming option if you want to have a metal feel? Zinc seems to be a very light material that could be formed and painted easily. But not sure if you could print a form with resin and then heat the zinc material for shaping? hmm.. I wonder what 3d printing solutions are out there.. would be great to learn and know more about it. Keep up the great work, incredible! cheers

How durable is this finish? I make automotive parts out of abs and asa. I have some parts that I would like to be Chrome but it obviously has to survive going through a carwash and other such things.
@startide13 күн бұрын
it's probably not as durable as stuff chromed for automotive parts, depends on how well the conductive paint adheres to the part. Don't take my word for it, maybe @hen3drik has a better idea of how it would perform.

How long does the gold plating last?

Depends on different factors like sweating. Nevertheless it’s hardened gold and doesn’t come off easily

Oh I love it! Bling printer! I so want to do that once I set up my own electroplating setup. Any idea if it is possible to electroplate brass onto something? I imagine if it is, it wouldn't be straightforward since it's an alloy. I did read something about depositing a zinc layer and a copper layer then heating it with a torch to make the alloy on your actual item but I imagine that wouldn't be a stellar plan for 3D prints...
