Hmm, reminds me of a young fella who wound up dead in the head gates at the river here. His clothes were folded with his cell phone on top of them, and I also heard there was a smiley face painted somewhere near there. It has been about 8 or 9 yrs. ago. He was messing with some Mexican's talked about ripping them off of some weed. He use to sit out front of a Mexican restaurant with one Mexican fella, then next thing you know, he's dead the restaurant closed, the bench was removed.

If you haven't yet watched this, be aware that, despite the title listing this as a "documentary," it's not. It's a mockumentary, and a mediocre one, at that. If still interested? Have at 'er. It's utterly tone-deaf to capitalize on a series of unexplained deaths in the hopes of achieving cinematic fame. Art does imitate life, that's true, and there might be nothing wrong with making a film based loosely on these unexplained deaths. It would doubtless take more time, as well as a good deal more imagination, but that's also what might make it better - more "inspired" by real events, and less, I don't know, parasitic. Creating something that so closely mirrors real-life events, though - and then departing from that to add your own not-very-clever twist - is, IMO, in bad taste. Not only is it lazy and uninspired, but it (almost) goes without saying (so I'll say it), that it's profoundly insensitive to the dozens of real families whose loved ones' deaths may remain forever unexplained. I wonder if the film's creators have ever truly considered the legacy of grief that the families of the real-life victims of the SFKs have been left to grapple with? I doubt it. For most young people, death is (fortunately) a theoretical concept; there's maybe a grandparent that's died - not unexpectedly - after a long, full life. These aren't those kinds of deaths; they're almost certainly murders. And if you've never seen a drowned body, found weeks after death? Be glad. The image of that stays with you like a kind of real-life horror story - one you won't soon forget.
