I speak the Inland North/Great Lakes dialect of American English. I'll discuss West Frisian and Northland Scots in my post. I could not understand any of the West Frisian, but it felt like I should have understood it; it was like someone was pretending to speak English. It almost felt like he was speaking with an extremely heavy Southern accent. I could understand about 50% of Northland Scots. I could make out "reservoir," "unused," "material," etc.

Fries is not a dialect of dutch, nor are the Dutch Low Saxon dialects. they are part of the North Sea Germanic language family, while dutch is part of the Weser-Rhine Germanic language family

Heerlijk hoe we in het Limburgs zo'n enorme variatie aan dialecten per gemeente/dorp/stab hebben! Ik kom zelf uit Eisden (Maasmechelen, Limburg BE) en i.p.v. 'Vis' zoals de vrouw in het fragment het zei, zeggen wij 'Vösj'. :D

Mooie verhalen zeg. De meeste zullen inmiddels wel overleden zijn.

Ik mis brabants: Tilburgs, Eindhovens, (den) Bosch, Helmonds. Jammer dat dit niet in deze video zit.

If they are not mutually intelligible in written form then they are NOT dialects but regional languages

I kind feel like the Scots one wasn't true to historical Scots, and it would have been nice to see more locality languages outside of just Germany/Austria/Switzerland and the Netherlands/Flanders (Norway has two Germanic national languages for example, and there are several dying Germanic languages spoken in Sweden and Finland, on top of which there are plenty of dialect languages in the US etc) But you really got most of the dialect continuum between Old English/west Germanic and Danish and German, which was cool asf to see

Ik vind het heerlijk om al die streektalen te leren. Gronings en Drents kan ik, Amsterdams en hagenees ben ik druk aan het leren. De Frieze taal is een eeuwen oude taal.
