The mobile expert English chap on KZfaq never removed the whole CV so never had to get new AXLE NUTS, he just did the ball joints and pulled the inner splines out of the left and right sides of trans. The rotors and all that do not need to come off.

Yeah no doubt about it. That's a good in depth view of everything you need to know. My question to is, how exactly did you remove the shift cable linkage? And what connectors did you remove. I'm about to change the clutch, I have a 2000 Focus with the 2L DOHC.

You don’t need to remove the bolt fully, the splined shaft will slide over it, the washer is what keeps it all together 👍

I did the clutch in my 2001 Focus 1.6 today. Here's some tips that others may find useful. 1] You can drain the gearbox oil - if you look under were the filler plug is, there's a large bolt that looks like a dome bolt - undo this and the oil will drain out. It has a ball bearing in the end that I guess locates the selector mechanism. 2] The longer drive shaft just slips right out. With that out of the way, you can use a screwdriver to gently tap out the other shaft. If you look in the hole, through the diff, you can see the other drive shaft that you're aiming for. Be careful not to hit the round bit that sits between the two shafts. 3] You can get the box out with the subframe in place, but it's fiddly. 4] Getting the box back in was really hard work due to the weight. I did it while the car was on axle stands and I ache now! It took me around 6 hours to do.

Friend, if you ever have to pull it again, use 2 jacks on the trans. Like hiw you had to forward 'roll' the trans to get it out, simply set the trans onto one jack with the wgole trans already sitting on it rerolled forward 90 degrees. Put the other jack into the drivers side wheel well and jack it up where the plate will catch the trans as you let it 'roll' back into place. The jack will catch the heavy firewall part that the axles go into as jt falls into its home. Anyway, once you have that 'catcher' jack in position, roll the othrr jack with the trans siting on it under the car, with the jack firing into the drivers side wheel well, exaxtly as the other one is pointing, and get the trans jack to be side by side with tbe catcher jack. Start making small lifting pumps as you finesses the high point backward toward the firewall into place. Once you have cleared the clutch and the bell housing can slide toward the engine, the heavy forewall side of the trans will fall down onto the catcher jack's lift cup. Then just finagle until they are fully mated again. Take care. 👍

Agree, 6 hours of labor is what a pro mechanic charges, IN A SHOP with lifts and extra hands helping. So you did excellent at home. Axle nuts do not need to come off. Rotors on the end can stay put. Just pull the shaft ends from the left and right trans. sides. English expert mobile guy on here does that, he has probably done hundreds at people's houses. I wasted money on new axle nuts preparing for mine to be done in a week, the one-time-use nuts are hard to source right now and the price has gone up. I found them pretty cheap @ $3.77USD each so bought 4 just to have for future.🤣
