If youre going for a higher kv motor to get more speed , but then you gear down with the higher kv motor to get a similar speed to what you originally had then what's the point of changing the motor at all? Lol

It's best to start conservatively checking temps before adjusting gearing for max performance.

I'm confused....I'm running a 2200kv motor at 2x5000 milliamps. Where that 73 is coming from? How can you run such high amps? Thanks
@RCexplained3 күн бұрын
A motor data sheet for current. Where does your 2 x 5000mA come from? What RC are you running? This is not a commonly measured value of current in an RC vehicle. Also, measurement tools do not specify current drawn as a multiple - 2x. The measurement tool you are using is way off I'm sure.

Silly question. Who or why the changed the way if rating electric motors, I understand 700 W at 12 V and let say 7000 rpm. It’s clear and simple, so why to switch to the kv and turns ?
@RCexplained3 күн бұрын
I ran my old 9.6V Graupner 700 on 14.4V. What if I ran your motor on the same 14.4V, how would you determine total RPM?
@steelrat56042 күн бұрын
@@RCexplained I am not here to argue, just wonder about why ? Anyway the RPM would depend of the load, I think - a bigger propeller would slow down the motor ? Beside, I have old ASH 26 model which long long time ago I got from Germany. I got brushless motor for it - I think it was F10 (700 W) from USA, cost me a fortune at the time 700 US %. Now, my dilemma is. what kind of battery pack to use for this motor which use to ran on 12 V 2000mA Nic cad batteries. I just plan to go back and fly it.
@RCexplained2 күн бұрын
I was leading you down a path to determine why you need Kv. In order to figure out a different RPM, you would need to take 7000RPM/12V = 583Kv (calculating Kv that wasn't provided) Take 583Kv x 14.4V = 8400RPM. These are all unloaded values with the Input voltage. As hobbyists we need this information. Try a 3000mAh 3s LiPo. Measure performance on bench to determine if this is satisfactory.
@steelrat56042 күн бұрын
@@RCexplained I understand the calculation for RPM. Now, what if I want to replace the motor - how do I know which one to buy - to have the 700 - 1000 W ? I think I read about guys trying to run the motor with the LiPo batteries and burning it. What would suggest as a replacement. The specific glider is 3.2 m wing span, so needs good power. Appreciate your help.
@RCexplained2 күн бұрын
Find out how many watts per pound you want to be at. Somewhere around 40 to 75 is quite common for smaller gliders. Then buy a motor around this power rating. Choose a kv that will work with your preferred battery voltage.

Different Kv options are available to allow varying voltages to be used with the same class motor and then from there RPM tweaking.

The manufacturers of these batteries should be held to a much higher standard. It’s understandable that these batteries are used for devices that are categorized as “toys”. So it’s easy to inflate ratings with that thought in mind. But did these manufacturers forget that these batteries are being used in toys that can potentially cause great bodily injury? Imagine buying a battery for your remote control flying RC, only to have it fall from the sky because of inflated ratings. I guess it will take for something like that to happen before they are held accountable.

I’ve been buying batteries from zeee for years. I get the capacity listed if not better, and they perform well in my vehicles. Including their 10k 4s packs on a max5 5690 combo in a xrt. I know their C ratings are bullshit, but I’ve still had better from them than the likes of spektrum and traxxas. SPC batteries actually had extreme swelling for me, popped the hard case. Zeee packs have been stable. How ever I have gotten some bad packs from them, but unlike the local hobby shop, you can return these packs to Amazon even with the connectors chopped off

This isn't about Traxxas' lies about top speed? 🤷♂ They also try to be as anti-consumer as possible with their batts. A whole video series about how bad for the hobby Traxxxas (or Horizon Hobby) is for the average consumer would be interesting. People need to be educated that only mid-stage capitalism is good. Early stage is the wild west full of snake oil poison while late stage is monopolies and dictatorships.

Battery ratings in mAh are like MPG ratings for cars....if you don't go over 10 MPH you'll get the MPG that they claim....and if you only drain your battery mildly, you'll get their top rating....anything more and the ratings will decrease....in both MPG and mAh

I bought a few Zeee batteries for my Losi MX ProMoto and they perform awesome for my style driving, lots of punch and long run time. So I bought a pair of larger (more Mah and more C rating) Zeee batteries to run in my Kraton 8s and it will run awesome for about 5 minutes then hit LVC. Let it sit for a bit and restart the truck and can go again like they were fresh batteries.
@V8chump12 күн бұрын
I had the same issue with some lectron pro batteries. I think the discharge is too low, your ESC makes the voltage drop so much that the ESC thinks it’s at LVC. Also even if you have great batteries that hit LVC normally, you can turn off your rc and turn it back on and it’ll act fine… for a second before it realizes the battery is dead… so they could just be dead and turning it off and on just resets the LVC status. Maybe get a cheap cell voltage checker to test. Hope this helps man!

Battery makers no most people are not going to test batteries to see if they are what they claim it’s already been found by people testing the ratings are way off they always say it’s a higher mah then it really is. This is pretty much false advertisement but no one is going to stop them from this so it is getting worse until some agency steps in & files a lawsuit. It’s ridiculous just put the correct info on the batteries. It’s the cell count that matters you run a high speed on a lower cell count & of course it’s not going to go as fast as the same mah count with a higher cell count.

The problem is many manufactures are actually selling Lion chemistry pouch cells as LiPos. These have 3.6v average voltage per cell vs 3.85v. True Lipos are Lithium Cobalt Oxide chemistry and can deliver 50% of their energy to 3.85v midpoint vs 3.6v for Lion. You can do a CC CV discharge test to see what the midpoint voltage is for half the rated mAh. 3.85v for true lipo and 3.6-3.7v for Lion pouches. Lion pouch and LCO LiPos can have the same IR, but LCO will still perform better because it holds a higher voltage under load (about 7%). Manufactures do this because the cobalt additive is expensive, and cobalt free Lion can tolerate a lower over-discharge to 2.5v before puffing vs 3.0v for LCO.
