Thank you! I have been struggling and now I know why - the colours do not match. How counter intuitive.

Pro welding tip: Don't ever use a butane lighter to light torches (or keep one in your pocket). They make a nasty bomb if a spark or slag hits them and melts thru. Always use a sparker. You will only make that mistake once.

Is it possible to use a torch in some way rather than a kiln for this?

Yes, there are some fine silver clays that can be torch fired. We would recommend Phoenix Torch Fireable Clay: cooltools.us/collections/phoenix-torch-fireable-clay%E2%84%A2 Hope this helps!

Hello, I just purchased the gold painting powder from Cool Tools. I have a Beehive Kiln at home and fire most silver clay pieces on it. Can I put the gold painted piece in the Beehive Kiln instead of hand firing it? If so, which number dial do I set the temperature at and how long do I leave it on? Thank you for your help.
@cooltoolsvideos
@cooltoolsvideos 2 күн бұрын
Hi Carol, we tested this for you to find out what would be needed for the Beehive. You'll want to set it at 5 minutes with the controller set to 8 in order to set our 24K Gold Painting Powder. :)

Great video and helpful. I have a hook that broke off my wife’s pendant. It’s been fun trying to get it back on strong enough to hold. After seeing this I tried using my small torch and followed your video and after two attempts, burned fingers, and a whole lot of curse words. I’m happy to say that it worked perfectly. Thank you. 🙏🏼 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Does the size take into account the shrinkage or come with instructions on how to do so?
@cooltoolsvideos
@cooltoolsvideos 22 күн бұрын
You want to size your ring according to the clay's shrinkage. For example, if you're using EZ960 you'll want to size the ring 2 sizes larger to reach the desired size after firing. When firing rings, you can always use a ring sizer. This will constraint the ring to your desired size when firing. You can find them here: cooltools.us/collections/ring-sizers/products/cool-tools-metal-clay-ring-sizers Hope this helps!

If I wanted to, could I make a bigger piece like the first part of the second version and put the finding in that, for a more minimalistic version of this charm, rather than make the double snake layered donut shape? Or is the donut necessary for some technical reason that I missed?

I am in my 60's and I remember as a child of 10 years old going to Flea Markets where my Mother was absorbed into the Antiques they had for sale, my childhood home resembled a Museum filled with very old furniture and we were very careful in touching it as my mother was very protective of her vast collection, she had a house cleaner French Polishing all the pieces one by one until you could see your face in it, even our TV and VCR was carefully hidden so it was not visible to the untrained eye. There were old ladies selling jewelry exactly like that you are doing right there which I today recognize as the jewelry the "Flower People/Free Love" LOL! wore. My mother called it rubbish because it probably was way to Modern/Contemporary for her taste. The old ladies all had flower dresses on and they smelled like Cigarettes (To me, at 10 somebody in their 20's was old) But yes, exactly like that, and loads of wind chimes and the whole Flea Market smelled like incense or cannabis I would not have known the difference. Just for context, I am South African but my parents was also 100% against the Vietnam War and were very vocal about it while we had House Maids, Laundry Maids, Gardeners and my sister and I had a Nanny all while we were conducting War against pretty much any body who dared to stand up against us, which has not changed after the end of Apartheid. But considering that 25 million people are employed in these kinds of jobs today, it is unimaginable what will happen to these people should they loose their jobs as you might know.

Beautiful outcome. As the stone doesn't shrink but the band reduces by 2 sizes or more, what stops the setting from forming cracks around the stone?
@cooltoolsvideos
@cooltoolsvideos Ай бұрын
Hello, Karen uses a precision hole punch/stone setting punch that is 3mm larger than the stone for the setting to account for shrinkage around the stone. We recommend checking out our video on how to use stone setting punches here: cooltools.us/collections/how-to-use-stone-setting-punches. Hope this helps clarify!

how do you make a coil that is thicker in the middle and thinner on the ends?
@cooltoolsvideos
@cooltoolsvideos Ай бұрын
Hello, you would want to press out the coil with the snake maker, and once the middle is the thickness you desire, slowly move towards the ends and gently place more pressure as move back and forth. This will thin out the ends. I hope this makes sense.
