Don't Farmer's do this to add nutrients to the soil?
@mossyrootsfarm22632 күн бұрын
So mowing can add nutrients and minerals back to the soil. But that green manure as some may call it takes some time to decompose. Cows will quickly aid in that process by creating brown manure that can get into the soil faster. You can also crimp plants like this to knock them down. However you're still waiting a while for decomposition. In either scenario firing up a tractor is a waste of time and fuel if your cows will do the same job with some careful management.
@gooosfrabaYT2 күн бұрын
@@mossyrootsfarm2263 I believe it's called crop rotation. Usually one field out of the many that a farmer owns doesn't get used for a season to allow the soil to recoup it's nutrients and minerals. If this was not done all the manure in the world would not be enough to sustain a crop.
@mossyrootsfarm226314 сағат бұрын
@@gooosfrabaYT also not true. My farm was hayed for years on end with no fertilizer or manure added. The hay field was seeded 20-30 years ago and was not touched until recently. I think we forget what exactly the earth looked like before humans created a thought. No fertilizer trucks to add anything in 1600's, So how did grass survive since then? The same way it's thriving now. Just under "new" styles of management.
@gooosfrabaYT8 минут бұрын
@@mossyrootsfarm2263 If you really are a farmer then you should already know that not everyone grows only hay. Hay crops require very little nutrients or attention compared to a crop of corn or other vegetable that grows rapidly and produces more than one crop a year. Not all crops or farms use the same technique. Fast growing vegetable crops require very rich soil. Hay crops are very slow growing and don't rob the soil of valuable nutrients. Okay, your turn.

My cat has always been very slim. She has a kitty door into our house and is free fed / bottomless bowl. She’s from a long line of farm kitties and is almost 20 now. Everyone thinks she’s still a kitten bc of her size and vigor. If cats always have shelter available and the outdoor setting is safe and doesn’t have a lot of traffic, cats are much healthier when they can go outside. They have good instincts, and yes, they are slimmer than indoor only cats.

Why do you think they go to the trouble of putting up fences? People steal cattle. They'll get out. One of your neighbors will load them up and sell them. If he gets caught he'll claim he thought they were his.. They buy them every day at the stock yards. How are you going to prove that they were yours?
@mossyrootsfarm226318 күн бұрын
Well my answer is multifaceted as you had many questions in your comment. Why do I think people build fences? To keep cows contained in an area I wish to keep them in. I also don't think those concerns of yours are valid in today's environment. Fences are super easy to cut and steal cows from regardless of how well I build them. No fence is impenetrable when you have a grind or bolt cutters. Even a prison fence can be broken with these tools. I'm not worried about my cows being stolen and sold as I have non standard cows so if they get sold it's for pennies on the dollar. No one wants a 1200lb bull on the open market. Nor does McDonald's want small framed animals as such. Lastly all of my animals have been genotyped and tattooed as well as registered with the appropriate registry. So if someone steals my cows I can prove it's mine by those steps I have previously stated.
