As an upstate SC native I've grown up on local products. I know I've left the South when I can no longer find Cheerwine and Goo-Goo Cluster's candy in the stores. I'll be looking for Ashe County cheese, and if you like Bleu Cheese try the one made in Clemson SC; until 58 it was made in Stumphouse tunnel dating back to the war between the states. I'm not a fan if ginger cookies but I'll be trying some of Mrs. Hanes this Christmas. This is not history. This is still happening. In 2019, the USDA was caught discriminating against black farmers. The legislation to fix the wrong done to black farmers was stalled in courts by white farmers wanting their share in 2020. In 2021, 73% of the money won in the lawsuit was distributed to white farmers versus 26% for black farmers (1% other).
