There seems to be a lot of new desktop lasers being released these days. It's always fun to have a new tool in the shop.

Thanks for this! Also not sure if this is a factor cause I’m a year late to this video - you’re not supposed to run a dust collector with the blower active as well.

Fun to have a new tool in the shop! Hope you get the air assist in soon and really good call to get the air filter with it. Pretty expensive though. Could you go over making a DIY version with some activated charcoal furnace filters? Is this unit powerful enough to engrave brass? I think a brass medallion with black lettering would look real classy on walnut pieces.

The Robertson, or square-drive screw, seems to stay better seated when aiming and driving wood screws.

Beautiful end to a table worth saving. I have a bar table that I have kept because it has the same beautiful grain. Wanted to sell because of space but hated the idea of it being abused. Leaf could be well gone a decade ago or snug in some inconspicuous spot.

Torx is harder on metal because the shape is sharper so it's weaker, you need quality driver good machining, it's a more expensive and demanding design. Try making drivers and screws with the same cheap iron sloppy shape and Robertson is winning any contest. 90 degrees is the best angle. Smaller makes the driver weak. Bigger makes the driver slip and dull. I have ruined some hex screws and some allen drivers. I turned super rusty old square nuts with loose tools, NEVER failed.

This was a very good, clear, concise review. A torpedo level would be helpful in ensuring that the slide jig has not slipped. Kreg should've put a level in the jig. Take note that there are similar products available. I probably will buy these Kreg jigs for a drawer project.

Does anyone know what the cause of the color change is? I ask because it might be feasible to use a UV filtering finish, if that is the culprit, or add an anti-oxidizing compound to prevent oxidation... it's a stretch, but might be worth investigating... not just for Padauk, but for any tropical wood that tends to brown out over time.

As great as the Robertson screws are. I always hated them because as a kid I never had a Robertson screwdriver I only had slotted and Philips screwdrivers and always had to replace them.

Home Depot has some Torx head Tap-Cons, and they were pretty satisfying to put in, compared to the Tap-Con aggravation that can happen. The only problem is Torx bits are still somewhat alien to my tool boxes, just because they are more recent and less common, but as long as I have the bits I'm happy to use Torx.

I purchased a 2.5 gal wet/dry shop vac at a thrift store recently, it made an awful sound, so I disassembled it to see what was wrong. I then found a couple of mud wasp nests In the vent for the motor, and cleaned them out. I suppose now all I need to do is lubricate the bearing. Thanks for the video!

Thats weird that your torx screws don't stay on the driver. I use both torx and roberston depending on what i can find and for me they both stay on. Maybe my set are magnetic. I find both to work well for me and i use them every chance I can find them.

Nice fix! I have just about the exact table that my wife and I bought at an auction in about 1975. It, 6 chairs, 5 leaves and a buffet came as a matching set. A few years later I did a re-finish on it. It's been our daily use table for all that time and it still looks great. The "cheap" factory furniture that was done 100 years or so ago was definitely not poorly built. Too bad so much has changed in that regard.

My beloved wants to try it in our kitchen. I may be looking for some sexy white oak to see if I can make a suitable leaf for it. We need to test with some scrap ply to see how stable the table feels with a leaf in it.
