@GospelProgressionsUniversity3 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment and that is a great question! The foot pedals are usually what plays the bass tones or chords roots. There are a few thing you can do with your hands. You could play left handed chords while the right hand plays a melodic line. Or, you can double up the chords in both hands. Another option is to play a single chord but using a chord stacking technique to extend the chords over both the left and right hands. I hope this helps! 🙏🏽🙏🏽

Slash chords was one of those concepts that I played for years, but I never knew the terminology. I learned this terminology a couple of years ago, but Im also open to learn more about slash chords. Thanks for this video!
@GospelProgressionsUniversity4 ай бұрын
It’s quite fascinating how we can use certain musical concepts instinctively for years without knowing the official terminology. Discovering the terms like "slash chords" not only enriches our understanding but also opens up new avenues for learning and creativity. Slash chords, as you've now discovered, are a wonderful tool for adding depth and color to music, especially in genres like black gospel where they can significantly enhance the harmonic landscape. If you're looking to dive deeper into slash chords, exploring their use in different contexts can be incredibly rewarding. For instance, understanding how they can transition between sections of a song or how they can be used to reharmonize melodies offers a vast area for creative exploration. I encourage you to experiment with different slash chords in your playing. Try incorporating them into songs you already know, or use them to create unique arrangements of familiar hymns and choruses. This hands-on approach can be very enlightening. If you have any specific questions about slash chords or wish to see more examples of their application in various songs, feel free to let me know. I'm here to help and look forward to assisting in your musical journey. Thanks again for watching and for your eagerness to learn more. Happy playing!

@GospelProgressionsUniversity4 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing your approach to chord embellishment in gospel music, especially with the classic hymn "Holy, Holy, Holy." Your use of minor, half-diminished, and fully diminished chords (featuring the flattened third, flattened fifth, and double-flattened seventh) as finishes or comments to major chords is a sophisticated technique that can add depth and emotional nuance to the music. When I first started using different chords outside of major chords it opened up a new world of playing for me. Actually, learning modes helped me tons. Thanks for your comment!!

Thank you so much for the constructive feedback! I'm genuinely thrilled to hear you found the tutorial useful and took notes along the way. Your suggestion about incorporating song examples to demonstrate the movements is a fantastic idea. It aligns well with the goal of making musical concepts more relatable and easier to grasp in a real-world context. I absolutely see the value in applying what we learn directly into songs we know and love; it not only reinforces the lesson but also makes learning more enjoyable and effective. I'll definitely take your suggestion into account for future videos. In fact, I'm already thinking about which songs could best showcase the movements we've discussed. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and for being a part of our community. Your engagement truly makes a difference, and I look forward to bringing your suggestion to life in the near future!

Believe it or not I never learned the birthday song. This is a very nice arrangement that take it to a whole other level. but are you saying play the song regular in the beginning then add those chords on the later part of the song? or are you are saying listen for where you can use these chords also in the beginning. (unless I missed something) I hope this question make sense. Thank you for sharing this with us.
@GospelProgressionsUniversity5 ай бұрын
Thank you, you're very welcome! Listen carefully for when you can use new chord progressions and when it makes the most sense. I'm just providing a different interpretation. Music is creative and highly contextual. For some people just playing it simply ( a child's birthday party etc) is fine. Part of my aim here is to get you to start learning how the improvisational style of gospel music works. But don't play anything that sounds weird and unnatural to your own ears. Trust me, nothing sounds worse than a forced chord progression you haven't mastered. Because it may sound natural when someone else plays a piece of music it doesn't mean it will sound natural when you learn to play it the same way especially if it hasn't yet been adapted into your playing style/ears. When you learn something new, don't practice until you get it right practice until you cant get it wrong. Thats when it becomes yours. The practice room isn't a live room so make all the mistakes but the the live room isn't a practice room. For all the reasons people may hear you play they didn't come to hear you practice. I hope my answer makes sense.
