Robb Flynn, Dave Mcclain, Adam Duche, Phil Demmel: The best MH Line Up ever. From 2003- 201, Machine Head was the best band on earth. Hands down.

My favourite MH album. You can clearly see the evolution, early signes of how the blackening will sound like.

This album SUCKS. An ugly copy of PANTERA, Slipknot and Sepultura made in a very mediocre way. The singer is often not in tune. Boring and banal vocal lines. I used to love them.... what a letdown

Tharsh Eats Balls, Osbos, Durt's anal hamsters, PBill, Mike P and a whole host of 'interesting characters.' I miss The Frontlines. Met so many fun people on there. I was on from the mid 90's when Sven ran the board until the day it closed and then for a couple of years on Crumbs' TakeMyScars board.

Nobody ever talks about using an OD808 or TS-9 in their distortion chain with a noise gate. Most of these bands do that...

@@SantyEscudero I'm not sure if he ever switched to the Ibanez TS9 but he was using a Boss SD1 for sure. No EVH that I've heard of, tho on live they use a 6505 modeled in their AxeFX

@@whoohaaXL Why does everyone assume that if you're playing metal it's a 5150 or follow on and a tube screamer? I don't know what Robb was playing on Ashes but Blackening he was back the SD-1 or at least that's what was in the rig when I and a few others went in there to get drunk and do the chants on Clenching. I believe on The More Things Change he used the SD-1 there too. On Burn My Eye's, if memory serves me right, he still had his old Marshall Silver Jubilee head and to this day his studio setup is still a combo of 5150 (bubba) a Marshall and sometimes a Line 6. In some of the live videos take around the time of the recording of Burn My Eyes you always see the Marshall. It's kinda like Korn recording their first album using Marshalls and then everyone assumed they used Triple Rectumfiers because that's what they bought after the started getting a bunch of money. Gojira: 5150 users with no overdrive or distortion pedal on the front end. Slipknot: no 5150. Metallica: when they use amps, Mesa, Diesel and Randall. Slayer: Always Marshall Even Van Halen, the father of the 5150 and lover of gain didn't run an overdrive or distortion before the amp. There's probably more people running Marshall valvestates and HM2 pedals cranked to the max unless of course you spend too much time on the Andy Sneap forums. :P If you want a tighter tone without the BS of an extra pedal, run thinner strings like we used to back in the day. Rick Beato has a great video on this entitled "you're using the wrong strings" or something like that. Figure that Master and Justice were recorded on .38's on the low E. Tight as f%#k. The 5150 is a good amp. I much preferred the tone from the 60 watt combo than the head. It was tighter, more balls and because you could push the master more without killing your ears on a small stage the lead tone was far better. But the originals had one handle on top for a 100+lb combo. Lug two of those up a flight or two of stairs before a show. For now I'm digging the little Mesa Mark V 25 - it's magic in a lunch box. True, that magic ain't cheap but you can unleash hell with a 16lb amp and if you run it through a 4x12 you're not strugging to hear it when the drummer goes full caveman on PCP. I made the 'mistake' of running my 25 watt head along side the slightly larger 35 watt Mark V (which I was interested in because of the Solo volume - a secondary master volume) - you get that Hetfield tone in about 10 seconds and John Sykes Still of the Night tone in a minute if you stuff a stereo chorus on the front end.
