If you're not mooching for kings in SE AK, you're just not. Honestly not a whole lot better than mooching up a good king.

If your coming from out of state. What is the cost to bring fish home?
@cascadecreeklodge
@cascadecreeklodge 4 ай бұрын
@Justice34015 Depends on the airlines. Most guests bring their fish home as a checked bag in a box. Gives you about 24 hours before it needs to be back in the freezer. Typically the first checked bag is free.

What time of the year Do the Grey cod and black cod run in Alaska And When is peak season I would love to Catch some while I'm in Alaska
@cascadecreeklodge
@cascadecreeklodge 3 ай бұрын
Year round for the most part. We seem to have better luck for black cod in June-August. Grey (pacific) cod are typically bycatch while halibut/black cod fishing in 500-700 ft of water.

I grew up in Sitka, LOTS of sport fishing. Caught a 52lb. 3oz. King when I was 12. It tool 3rd in the Alaska Lumber & Pulp Salmon Derby. Cohoes were fun too. They school and hit all the poles at the same time - they like to jump!

Wow times have changed! I remember fishing the Kenai in the 80’s50-75 lb king were common, 40-50 lbs common at the mat su rivers, same with Kodiak! Now the kings and silvers are way smaller! The silver salmon derby winners at Seward and Valdez used to average approx 18-20 lbs! Now your winning fish are 14-15 lb fish! Two reasons, Seattle pollock factory trawlers and big increase in the orca population! Simple!😳🤣🤪
@cascadecreeklodge
@cascadecreeklodge Жыл бұрын
No doubt, times have changed. 30 lbs is the new 40-50 lb for King salmon. The King salmon derby in Sitka has had a similar trend to what you’re describing.

Don’t sweat @william6526 comment. He was dropped on his head a lot when he was a kid . He might also eat paint chips. Net skills on point, multiple nets , you and the young crewmen scoop and score over and over. Happy clients is all that matters. The smiles on their faces say it all. Good luck this season. I will be there in June for a week 7-13 🤓🙌

Your not marking the salmon on sonar ? We have hard time marking them in the great lakes. We look for bait and right water temperature
@cascadecreeklodge
@cascadecreeklodge Жыл бұрын
Definitely marking some of the salmon we are catching. We also look for the bait and the salmon are usually nearby. Not really paying a lot of attention to water temperature.

@@cascadecreeklodge yes, I know I studied oceanography for decades, helped set up hatcheries ,raised and released millions of smolt in the puget sound fisheries...just seems like the fuel to fish ratio gets all unbalanced if you throw big fish back.
