You know you're about funk when your sextet has two horns, a drummer, and three bassists.

Kenny Garret’s solo on Mr. Pastorious is absolutely haunting. Miles’ greatest reed man since Coltrane.

Two years after Trane transitioned came a concert of this intensity and revolutionary content which had Trane sitting on the edge of his seat in awe and amazement. The rumblings of Weather Report and Return ForEver.are ever present.

he could never replace Shorter by a mile and that shows here. man, they had huge telepathy. twin guitars were fun in the start but..... meeeehh.... this is much more dangerous and fluid

The frogs made a disturbance at this concert. They also disrupted a Gerry Mulligan concert in the same era. I would not play there. I don't like the frogs. (What's to like?) But they do make the world's best saxophones (Selmer) and bassoons (Buffet) and they make excellent flutes, oboes and clarinets too. That aside, they are a dead loss.

On the tune "so what " trane couldn't hold back. New music was bursting inside him. Miles wanted to keep trane for this tour and trane was excited to get back and work on his new sound that was uniquely his. Before he was between bird and a couple of others. He found a voice his horn and his sound and wanted to strike up a small group to express and develop what was emanating in his soul. In this set trane put it out there and the audience loved it. He knew that he was definitely onto a new type jazz genre,so to speak. I loved his new style and practiced it often.

This was before Chick found L. Ron Hubbard. Why do I mention that? Because I recently what a controlling loon Chick was as a bandleader- at least, in Bill Connor’s experience. Anyway, on electric piano Chick was a force of nature. His playing pianistically but exploiting the unique sound of the Rhodes.

I've been listening to MWTH since 81, thinking it was complete. To hear the full version now is ...astonishing... it breaks down preconceptions, which is like hearing it for the first time again. The power, space and restraint in the music is completely unique to Miles. A big thank you to everyone who made it possible for me to hear this.
