Oh man - I’m from the town where the mine is and just celebrated my 50ies bday party there. I’m a (amateur) photographer and when I walked around the mine I thought an about what a great place this is to take photos. Had now idea that Andreas was there. Have to go back now and bring my own gear not just my iPhone (I live in the states now so I can just visit anytime)

Reri was the outstanding Zerbinetta and Sophie of her time, when there were many world class coloraturas. Her voice is as close to perfection as any human could be. A charming and humble lady, extremely intelligent.

I really agree with the comment by Tobias. Zucker is eccentric. But he is passionate, and no one else bothered to track all of them down. For that, we should be grateful. Having watched the entire film, I really like Carla Gavazzi. She still had the passion for singing and opera, and it's more than evident in this clip. I was very saddened however to hear Simionato speak. The joy of singing completely left her. As for Pobbe, I do think that she gives off Norma Desmond energy. In a way, Gencer did too. Except Gencer had enough sway to do the interview in a box at La Scala, whereas Pobbe had to do it in her living room.

Reri Grist, now 91, was born in New York City, grew up in the East River Housing Projects, attended the High School of Music & Art, majored in voice and graduated with a BA in Music from Queens College, City University of New York. I went to university there also, but many years later.

People talk a lot about Stefan and with good reason I suppose BUT with retrospect I really really appreciate this film. Despite his pettiness at times, he really gives the viewer the sense of the IMPORTANCE of these ladies and the world of opera they came from. They performed at a time where the opera was as important to the Italian public as it was to the singers. There was an expectation of excellence, real drama and genuine excitement and this documentary really captures the reality of old world which is now forgotten.

Have always thought for a long time now after watching him play Lizts Sospiro that Marc has got to be the worlds greatest piano virtuoso! It’s all so completely unforced and exquisite, with him the piano speaks conveying exactly what the composer and he want it to! I know nothing about the technicalities of piano playing but I have an ear for music and I can say the piano sounds so very different when he’s playing so effortless, yet he interprets the piece in his own unique way. After listening to Un Sospiro I can’t listen to anyone else playing it,it is so perfect in every way! Would have loved to listen to him playing Beethoven’s 5th or the Emperor with the Vienna Philharmonic, but as far as I’ve seen he doesn’t play with orchestras. Also he doesn’t want to commercialise his art. He plays for the sheer love of music exploring, thinking and interpreting in his own unique way. The hallmark of a true genius caught up in his own wonderful world , not really playing to the gallery but for himself and his own stratospherically high standards, that is what satisfies him .
