The status is The Fisher of Dreams. It's on the old swing bridge that used to carry the main train line to London. It is now a cycle path, part of the Trans Pennine Trail, hence you see an angled 'catching a train', and the dog piddling on the bike. This symbolises the current use of the area; fishing, cycling and dog walking.

I’ve never seen a mink in the wild, let alone one hunting. Invasive mink are eradicating our water voles. To the point of extinction sadly. I couldn’t make out if it had caught a water vole (water rat) or brown rat. Brown rat I hope.

Interesting about the stove glass. Gas flows up the chimney, the seal on the door is to stop air from inside the boat feeding the fire and burning up fuel too quickly. I.e. the fire is sucking not blowing. Granted, a gust of wind might cause momentary blow-back, but would that be sustained? Isn't that what the carbon monoxide alarm is for? Anyway, better to get it fixed.

Titanic 2 looks like it would be at home on the K&A, but looks can be deceiving! Also, hadn't thought of the network of bridges being narrow too, but only about the same as us taking a widebeam through a wider bridge, sometimes not a lot to spare.

Very much fit in on the K&A!

What specifically caused the boat in the lock to sink (6:00)? Tight lines and a lowering lock water level? Catastrophic stern gland failure? Does anyone market an alarm that sounds if a mooring line cuts loose?

The building by the water tap at the start looks like it might have been a packet Warehouse, to store smaller sized goods being transported on the canals.

I once had a tree fall whilst driving my van down the A650. I saw it out of the corner of my eye & just gunned it. There was a huge bang on the road inches behind my van. So much so that I felt the vibration through my steering wheel. A car over the other side of the road ran into it. I called the police to help get the tree shifted & all they could do when they got there was breathalyze me. 😂

The Pennine Way is about 270 miles in total. It also joins the L&L Canal at East Marton. Most people take about 2 1/2 weeks to do the complete walk averaging about 15 miles a day. Of course there are some substantial climbs most days. In the Gargrave area you could walk north to Malham and catch buses back via Skipton. You could walk south to Earby and also catch buses back via Skipton.

The football ground that you saw is Deepdale. Home of Preston North End. Darwen Tower was actually also erected to mark the achievement of the right to access the moor for the recreation of the local people. It had experienced mass trespasses by numbers far greater than the more famous Kinder Trespass.

There is so much history in that section you have cruised there. The old mill at Withnell Fold once made paper (high quality) for bank notes. I do guided heritage walks for IWA and Lancaster Canal Trust which start and finish at the top lock at Johnsons Hillock near Wheelton and the lock flight itself was originally built c1814/15 by the Lancaster Canal Company with the Leeds and Liverpool finally getting completed and connected in 1816. The building of the M61 in 1968/69 cut the Walton summit branch (former Lancaster canal southern section) in 3 places but two tunnels, bridges and parts of the old canal still survive in places.

A really nice stretch next to the edge of Chorley. I hope you stopped and had a look around Withnell Fold. It's a village built for the paper mill owners and workers. The settling pools on the north side of the canal are also worth a short walk and it's now a small nature reserve. The water aqueduct from the Lake District to Manchester also passes through the village and there is an impressive stone aqueduct bridge 500m after the village on the offside of the canal.

Thanks for this lovely video. It was my stamping ground as a local teenager and a bit beyond. I have lots of experiences along there. The most spectacular being when they opened the furnaces at Stanton Iron Works. After the M1 opened it was a sight from hell if you drove past at the right time. Sparks everywhere! There slag heaps used to frequently catch fire as well. We called them Stanton volcanoes. The works also discharged hot water into the canal. So a swimming spot in summer and a fishing spot in winter. The Sandiacre lock building/tollhouse was restored in these times ('70's). Indeed, the canal was threatened with closure and so the Erewash Canal Preservation Society was formed. That building became their first project to establish a focal point for meetings etc. My dad knew the lead person in the society, and he did the wiring for the building at a few weekends. I made tea and probably went fishing. When boats started using the canal in more numbers, they disturbed the bottom and released lots of old pollution. When fish stocks suffered. I think that there was a huge and expensive clean up done.
