Nicely done. Simple little tricks like this, are so thoughtful. It's like the screw trick, tha avoids cross threading. Putting the screw at the old opening and turning it backwards until it bumps into the thread, the turning it clockwise as normal. You never cross thread the hole.. Its critical for wood and plastic parts and even metal.

@henrymostert2125Ай бұрын
There are two types of laminate blades. One is a triple chip blade the other is in high - ATB 80 tooth blade. There's a company called FS tool that makes this. This is the type of Blade I prefer. It will give you a decent cut on the back side of the melamine in one pass. The other blade is very good but you won't get a good cut on the back side. It works best with a scoring blade

What sealant and how do you fill nail holes in melamine?
@henrymostert21252 ай бұрын
That is a good question. If I'm painting the melamine what I do is put automotive bondo in the hole and then sand it and prime it and paint it. If it's small nail holes for installations I will sometimes use a white seam fill. Or for doing repairs. You can get this from industrial supplies or from your countertop supplier

What would you estimate your cost of materials/cabinet to be?
@henrymostert21252 ай бұрын
I generally will take the cost of each cabinet would be one sheet of material whether that is plywood or melamine. Then I calculate how many doors I need whether I'm making them or ordering them I have to factor that in. Then I calculate all my drawers and how much time it takes to make one of those and the amount of material. Then I add in finishing and how much time it takes. Then moldings and panels and the finishing required on that. The last thing is a profit margin. Generally I try to be about 30%

What type of finish would you put on those doors now? I have a set of cabinets to make and I like your process for the shaker doors. I was thinking about using a hard wax oil finish like Osmo PolyX.
@henrymostert21252 ай бұрын
I used oil on a project a few months ago. I had not used it to that point. I really like how it went on, very forgiving. Im going to use a spray stain fast wipe. Then a spray coat of sealer, the two eurothane top coats. Its a bullet proof finish.
@AshtonMillworksDesignTeam2 ай бұрын
We build them with the rabbit too, but we either use a dado stack or the router table depending. This is a nice way to get it done without switching blades or machines. A few setup blocks would make your method fast.

Great video. I’m curious about your cleaning process with that hardener in the paint. What do you do between coats? Do you lose some product if you finish a run with half a cup left? How dire is it if the paint hardens in the gun 😬?
@henrymostert21252 ай бұрын
Those are very good questions. Yes I have had it where I have left the product in the cup for actually about 2 days. I came back and it was like hard Jello at the bottom. Gun wash and the reducer that I use for the finish was able to break it up. I tried to spray all the product and then mix up another batch. That way I don't have too much product that can go off. I have about 45 minutes before the paint starts to degrade. But yeah don't be like me and leave paint in the gun it's a bad idea LOL

How do you protect your cabinets from particle board sag that happens as years go by?
@henrymostert21253 ай бұрын
The upper cabinets get a light rail underneath that is screwed and that supports the lower shelf. The base toe kick sits underneath the base of the lower cabinets and supports that. The shelves I don't go over certain size and I don't ever have a problem with a sag. Once you go over 30 in it becomes a problem

I needed one more piece for a drawer bottom and the scrap was 1/2 larger and was a perfect cut to fit. The other one was terrible. The walls were really uneven. Also needed to use a scrap piece but this time it was 3/4" too short. Had to buy another 4x8 sheet just for one drawer front. Dropped every other screw. Battery went dead twice. One of those projects. When that happens I stop and go outside and just breathe. Force myself to slow down and calm down. I tell myself I'm retired and I'm not breaking my back anymore and it'll get done.
