A good use of the tremendous amount of money the church has saved. I predict it will be called the "Russel M. Nelson School of Medicine". Also, since morality tends to shift as society changes its positions, (yes, even within the church), I wonder how and if the upcoming LDS medical school will adapt to eventual moral changes? Furthermore, there are certain medical treatments The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints might deem immoral, and if the new school of medicine doesn't train their doctors in those fields of medicine, will that somehow effect the employability of future doctors who graduate from BYU?

“If we as a people and as individuals are to have access to the power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ-to cleanse and heal us, to strengthen and magnify us, and ultimately to exalt us -we must clearly acknowledge Him as the source of that power. We can begin by calling His Church by the name He decreed.”* STYLE GUIDE: In the first reference, the full name of the Church is preferred: “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.” When a shortened reference is needed, the terms “the Church” or the “Church of Jesus Christ” are encouraged. The “restored Church of Jesus Christ” is also accurate and encouraged. PLEASE AVOID USING THE ABBREVIATION “LDS” OR THE NICKNAME “MORMON” AS SUBSTITUTES FOR THE NAME OF THE CHURCH. When referring to Church members, the terms “members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,” “Latter-day Saints,” “members of the Church of Jesus Christ” and “members of the restored Church of Jesus Christ” are preferred. WE ASK THAT THE TERM “MORMONS” OR “LDS” NOT BE USED. THE TERM “MORMONISM” IS INACCURATE AND SHOULD NOT BE USED. When describing the combination of doctrine, culture and lifestyle unique to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the term “the restored gospel of Jesus Christ” is accurate and preferred. “I promise you that if we will do our best to restore the correct name of the Lord’s Church, He whose Church this is will pour down His power and blessings upon the heads of the Latter-day Saints, the likes of which we have never seen. We will have the knowledge and power of God to help us take the blessings of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people and to prepare the world for the Second Coming of the Lord.”* *President Nelson, The Lord’s Mouthpiece

When the subject of “I don’t feel this is excluding” comes from the person on the inside rather from the person on the outside looking in, the conversation lacks merit. Otherwise, you get opinions like this one which convey, “I’m not better than you, I’m just saying I’ve done the work to be holier. I’m not ‘more’ than you; you’re just ‘less’ when it comes to being good and hardworking. Got it?” If you want to explore the idea that the temple isn’t exclusionary, interview the siblings in the temple waiting area who can’t see their brother or sister get married because they can’t force themselves to believe J.S.’s version of American history. Or to those people who were born with intersex medical conditions or are gay. Or Black people whose parents supposedly didn’t have souls because they died in the wrong year instead waiting for the apostles to come around.

For the naysayers and theirworries about temples being exclusionary, lets ponder on this. John 3:5 Is thst exclusionary? NO ONE can enter the kingdom of God without being baptized by water and fire. That would exclude roughly 90%+ of the people who lived on the earth. Basically what GOD is saying in this scripture is that we need to be committed to live a certain way through making covenants with HIM if we are going to be living with HIM in the presence of Jesus and Him. However, though that is the commandment of God and He knows that it's going to exclude most people, HE presents humankind with the option to receive the truth in the next life if they have not heard it in its purity in this life ... 1 Peter 3:18-20 and 1 Peter 4:6 And as HE states in 1st Corinthians 15:29, baptisms for the dead will be performed so that they receive it vicariously (in Temples) at which time they get to accept the baptism or to reject it. The practice of baptisms for the dead was done long after the apostles had deceased. During the time that Paul talked to his audience in Corinthians, he was using baptism for the dead as EVIDENCE that there is a resurrection. No religion is without exclusion doctrine except for the "anything goes" religion or humanism. Which religion believes in the eventual teaching the truth to everyone? Only one. The LDS Church.... 1 Peter 3:18-20 and 1 Peter 4:6

Christ has withheld the fulness of gospel from groups of people at various times. The samaritans and gentiles in the New Testament are perfect examples. The lgbt community however is different. They make an active decision to live contrary to the law of God. That isn’t a matter of lineage or line of the priesthood. LGBT chose to act contrary to Gods law. There is no scriptural or historical support consistent with the Hebrew tradition that supports the lgbt chosen relationships.

If you know any slightly older couples who meet this description, keep an eye out in their house for a white foot-washing pitcher and basin. (There will be no other color on it whatsoever.) But you just said it: "We are prepared to live in a higher and holier way. We have a higher accountability to God." There is literally nothing in the temple ceremony that makes anyone higher or holier, nor does it require a "higher or holier way" to be understood. I am a Mormon and I cannot disagree more with this person. The Israelites processed metallurgy which none of the native Americans had at the time Columbus landed in the Americas. They did do work with silver and gold and a little in copper but never in iron or at least that has been archaeologically identified to any of the nation American cultures pre or post Columbus. I know there was hardwood copper found but the secret of how that was done has been lost to the world. Were the swords made of hardened copper? If so, we should have found at least dozens of examples by now. So what, the Nephites and Lamanites somehow lost the ability to work with iron and had to resort to using obsidian embedded wood for swords? That is stretching the narrative too far. There would have been 1000s, 10,000s of swords made by both the Nephites and the Lamanites for use in their wars prior to Christ coming to visit. This is assuming they somehow lost this ability during the cataclysmic events that the American continent suffered during the crucification of Jesus Christ as some scholars have suggested. Yet there is not one remainent of one sword yet to be found. I cannot explain this with respect to the Book of Mormon claims. No one really can. But when they do we get this kind of ****. No wonder people think it's a work of fiction. My suggestion is to just take it on faith and let The Lord reveal the truth in His own good time.

Here’s what happened: The governor of Missouri signed an order commanding the militia to chase 10,000 Saints out of the state. Members of the Church asked for protection from local law enforcement and judges, the governor, and senators. No one listened. Joseph went to the U.S. Capitol and met directly with the President and members of Congress, who declined to help again. They claimed the Constitution didn’t allow the federal government to protect religious freedom when individual states refused to do so. By 1844, Joseph felt that running for president would raise awareness and help expand religious freedom, so he announced his candidacy in February. Unfortunately, Joseph was killed just a few months later-making him the first presidential candidate in American history to be assassinated!

When my husband and I were sealed, I literally felt a light, sparkling-feeling mist settle over us, covering us. I felt the ageless power and honor of the covenant, and I testify that it is so beautifully real. (This next part is strictly my opinion and has no bearing on any church doctrine or teaching:) I feel like there are three types of partnerships. There's the Telestial level, which is living together. That’s more of a "til we're bored with each other" or "til things get hard" commitment. Then there's the Terrestrial level, which is a civil marriage, more of a "I love you enough to get married for now, but I'm keeping my Eternal Options open" marriage. Then there's a Celestial marriage, which is "you're my chosen one for the rest of forever". With a Telestial union you build something together until one of you wants to quit. You're building sand castles together, that can get washed away by the first high tide. With a Terrestrial union, you build something here on Earth that will last many years but it's only an earthly union so earthly things can seem pretty major. You're building castles out of adobe-type mud, where it can get worn down and weakened over the years of hard rains. With a Celestial marriage, you're building something eternal, something so much bigger than yourselves. It's so beautifully different! You're building an eternal castle from granite and marble, a huge building for your future generations to live in. With a Celestial marriage, differing ways of doing household chores etc seem inconsequential when viewed through an eternal lens, and it's so much easier to focus on the qualities that are eternal- loyalty, integrity, honor, etc. P.S. I'm fully aware of the exceptions to each rule, but choosing to simplify my personal viewpoint as stated. 🩷

??? There's no comparison between married "til death do you part" and being sealed "for time and all eternity", if you really do love your partner you would want to be with them forever, not just a few short years on earth. That being said, it is completely possible to have a civil ceremony before getting sealed, so non-members can attend, that's what my husband and I did. Any couple can choose that if they want, and the church is very open to that option. If a couple chooses not to do that, then any "broken-heated memories" are entirely their responsibility, not the church's.

@FreeSpirit5150 I never said it wasn't possible, that the two ceremonies are the same or that the church isn't open to it. As your defensiveness illustrates when a civil marriage prior to the temple marriage is brought up, a very common response from church, church leadership and members is to feel threatened and use shaming language "... if you really love your partner..." when absolutely no one said or implied they are choosing civil OVER a temple marriage. They would just like it to happen before a temple marriage.

It sounded to me like you were saying that civil marriages were better than temple marriages because the entire part-member families could be invited. I was offering my personal point of view regarding the difference between the two. In all my 40 odd years as a member I have never heard of even one incident where a couple was shamed for wanting both. That must be a personal thing with the person doing the shaming. We've lived in several different wards, and it's quite common for a couple to be married in the church by the Bishop, with the whole ward pitching in to decorate the cultural hall, bringing food if there's to be a meal, etc, prior to their temple sealing. I'm sorry for anyone made to feel less for wanting both. Maybe the person who is perceived as doing the shaming misunderstood the intentions, as I did with you?? 🤷‍♀️ Again, I apologize for that.
