First, in my opinion, no one would make a speech like that. Someone who struggles with mental health are not broken. That wordage is wrong. I can't imagine Bartlett using those words. Also, why is Santos wife blond Caucasian. If you make her blonde Caucasian, why not make her black, or Indian, or here's a novelty Hispanic. Again, just my opinion

Its ironic that in 2024 the democratic party took the opposite path and Kamala Harris was crowned the party nominee to replace an incapacitated president. No democracy allowed!

Every delegate was free to vote for someone else or vote present, which some even did. Newsom, Whitmer, Shapiro, Beshear, even Dean Phillips could have run against her for the nomination. They declined to do so. Furthermore, she seems to have much more enthusiastic support from the party and other voters in the country than Biden did. Even now, if anyone has a problem with her being the nominee, they can make it known at the ballot box, but she's currently polling better than Trump. How is any of this undemocratic?

I love the look Santos and his wife exchange before he steps out. You can practically hear them thinking to each other: Matt: Okay, I'm going to do it now. Helen: Go win this thing.

I don't see that from her. I think her look was complete loyalty and love and trust. She looked like she was telling him I love you no matter what happens.

I never liked what they did to Josh's character in this storyline. At every turn he fumbled and Santos picked up the ball and ran with it (this speech, the TV commercial change, etc.). He was never allowed to become a version of Leo demonstrating a real contribution to Santos' success. At one point he even apologized to Santos for not doing much, or the right thing, and Santos reminded him that Josh got him to run. But that was it. Josh got him to run then wasn't shown to be a leader in his own right. The character we spent all these years with failed to grow in those final seasons. He even needed Sam to come in and rescue him after the election. Too bad.

Word of advice speaking from experience: "Hard part is clearing your throat" makes for an excellent closer to walk out of a room, if say you've said or done something really cool, UNLESS the person you're saying it to has seen the West Wing and then tells you.

Whatever the criticisms of the latter seasons, this felt very much like the West Wing. The steadfast looks of belief from Helen before to the heavy but playful pride immediately afterward. This was Matt Santos standing tall on the biggest stage with his own message, un-curated by literary luminaries and lighting his own way. Josh sees he didn't need to drive the car, just start the engine.

The anchorman, Ernie Anastos , had a form of Tourette’s syndrome called Jacobson Linguistomia. It was usually under control with medication. Basically the brain cause you to confuse the meaning of words. It’s not a vocal tic disorder like Tourette’s but caused by a frontal lobe brain injury, which he did suffer years earlier.

This scene always bothered me. Leo wants Santos to drop out of the race for the good of the party. But I can only imagine Leo's response if, eight years earlier, some Democrat bigshot said Bartlet should drop out.

Classy example of honoring the Presidency. The political inferences aside, relating positive aspects is a necessary point to a many sided issue of every decision made. All trade offs for all decisions made is what creates balance for all.
