a broken bankai, more specifically, can never be restored to what it used to be. it will be a shell of itself in combat power. but this doesn't ring true with one's shikai so if it got destroyed it can eventually be restored to its usual self, just needs time with pouring reiatsu into it & meditating in the manga Ikkaku's bankai got mentioned by Mayuri here as being a shell of itself in power now bc it did get broken to a degree vs an Arrancar during the Arrancar Arc, if you can remember that. Capt Komamura was a unique exception to the broken bankai rule bc when his body heals so does his bankai since it copies him in movement or if he loses a limb etc
