Fascinating documentary and offers a completely different perspective on what life in the docks must have been like.

Adrian's birth certificate should give the place of birth; first there is an "entry number" (for the physical register book that was open at the time: they get changed when full so the period each book covers can vary) and then "Column 1" is the place of birth and "Column 7" is the residence of the "informant" which is the person (usually a parent) who registered the birth. The registration date on mine is interesting, because it was the day the Prime Minister resigned and I think my father decided to mark this auspicious occasion by registering my birth! No, I'm not going to say which Prime Minister this was, but that was pretty typical of my late father, who only actually _liked_ four politicians that I can think of: Barbara Castle, Shirley Williams, Anne Mallalieu QC/KC (we had to keep her campaign poster which had a nice photo of her young self on it) and Field Marshal Jan Smutts, the latter mainly because, as Prime Minister of South Africa, he threw the future South African Presidents Vorster and Botha in jail for attempting to help the NAZIs during WW2. Adrian will need to know what the hospital was _officially_ named at the time: a lot of hospitals changed their name during periods of reorganisation in the health service.

That interview was just perfect. Thank you. I am curious to know how long you have been mudlarking. Living in South Africa the opportunity to mess about, as you do, does not exist.

It is shocking that such a disclaimer should (I assume) be required to preface this documentary. It is about life and history. People have become so delicate over the past 50 years. Mustn't offend anyone!

A magnificent space,so many stories, some yet to be discovered, some that will never be told. I can’t make it to the festival this year, but have attended the past 2 years, and will be back next year. I will be bringing a very special goodbye message in a bottle. Neither of the 2 bottles I sent out from the past 2 years have been found,or at least,I haven’t been contacted by the finder!

Marvelous shot of you doing your thing with the river and bridge in the background!! Also, whomever filmed this..should have had a low watt light on that man, he was in the shadows! Or, you and him should have switched seats so that he had the light one him, as he was your guest!

Exceptional archive footage, most of which I've not seen previously. The section on the 1919 riots reminds us how often we've been here before. Immigration is a fact of life in our society, and a very good fact of life, at that, but the bully boys have always been out there. In my book, people with 'legitimate concerns' don't bring knuckledusters and cans of Stella to the party.

Wonderful! Well worth a visit if you are in London as I was over the weekend. I love the lighthouse which you can walk round and listen to the longplayer. There is a small museum of Michael Faraday too and his exploration of light waves and magnetism. I think ... Can be difficult to find if you don't know the way but basically head out of the back door of the Canning Town tube station and follow the signs.

I think that it’s wrong when residents complaining have more power than boat yards along the river. The working river has been going on for centuries. Boat yards should be protected by government as a traditional activity/enterprise. A building can be heritage listed and therefore protected. I think that traditional river side businesses should also be listed. If you don’t want to listen to the activities of a boatyard, DONT buy the house next door to one. I mean, what did they expect to happen? The entitlement is incredible.😳

It should have stayed in Covent Garden. Far more profitable and a better spot for custom. I ate there way, way back in the 90s and they even sold their own 'Fatboy's' t-shirts which I had for many years. It was a unique, great place. A taste of 1950s America in London.
