There is no such thing as a 10 dollar part on a jet

Unbelievable. Such an expensive aircraft has a front wheel that is as maneuverable (only with brakes) as a cheap ultralight aircraft :) :) :)

Human flight was discovered by the first person to fall off a cliff. Controlled, heavier-than-air flight, the useful kind, was achieved at Kitty Hawk in 1903.

To those saying he would have heard it, the wind pushed the sound away. The green line in the video depicted an east west line as standard. The pilot probably deviated to take off into the southerly wind pushing the sound back to the shore. It would be more queitt.

The naivety is big here. Environmentalists all over Europe are infiltrating regulatory bodies to shutdown diesel engines over the next 10 years. In most big city you are no longer allowed to drive with diesel engine (in Europe). Your private airplane is seen as an existential threat to humanity. Attend a Green Party meeting f you don’t believe me.

As a retired journeyman mechanic I can assure you that you should never buy anything that says Mercedes on it. Rube Goldberg, Mickey Mouse, rinky dink engineering. You can't fix them. Nobody can. In Europe and England they sell the cars off cheap for taxi cabs. Thats all they're good for. In the US the dealers buy them back if you sign a gag order. Try to find a good mechanic to work on one. That's not rebuildable you just buy a brand new motor. Mercedes never made anything that was worth much. They're a very expensive joke. You'd have to be an idiot to fly in a plane with a Mercedes engine.

It is odd to me how these systems become so unreliable when they get onto aircraft, like a seal the narrator described. Never really happens in the automotive world which is less qualified and less expensive. What are you getting for all the licensing, inspections, maintenance, etc.? And I don't just mean in the case of a million dollar aircraft, I mean for basic starter aircraft too. I get that the components are under more stress, environments more extreme, so what does the added cost get you? $40,000 on a new engine and it is still... awful? I seriously don't understand the math.

That’s not the future of aviation, light sport crafts are likely going to take over… cheaper to learn, no medical requirements, the planes are newer and advanced, easier to fly and most engines are fadec that run on motor gas which is the normal gas you put on vehicles. With the new rules, you can do the exact same thing the DA-62 does consuming less gas, and your cost per hour is much cheaper cause the engines overhaul is cheap with a 2000 hour to major overhaul, that’s about 10 years to overhaul if you fly less than 200 hours a year.

May be fuel efficient but it's sure as hell not cost efficient when you consider what it costs to buy. You either have interest expense or the opportunity cost of the better part of a couple million dollars. It would be a great machine if it was $500k

The timing could not be more perfect for a collision. Had either the boat or the plane slightly fewer or slightly more rpms, they would have missed each other.

you are piloting a plane from left side. This kind of plane have a very poor vision forward because of engine, especially during take of and landing when nose his high. Pilot obviously could not see the boat.

The seal might cost $10 to make, but it probably costs a couple hundred dollars by the time it's on the shelf, then several thousand when it's installed on the aircraft

In maritime navigation rules, the boat to the right has the right of way. However, regardless of right of way it is all captain's responsibility to first and foremost avoid collision with another vessel. The powerboat clearly has better ability to avoid this collision since the plane is underway for takeoff and has limited ability to see or steer clear. The boater had the responsibility to steer clear and was negligent, either due to ignorance or impairment, or both. Hopefully no one was injured. It would be a great idea to demarcate this takeoff area with highly visible water markers to prevent future collisions.

Yeah, I'm NOT a fan of free-castering nose wheels. This makes the third incident I've seen regarding differential brakes. While I was getting my license, a Ciruss SR22 doing a runup nearby suddenly swung into a hangar door. Turns out, the pilot's foot slipped off one of the brake pedals, and it pivoted around the other wheel before he could reapply the brake. After I got my license, I was fast-taxiing in a Piper Warrior, and when I went to apply brakes to make my turn to the parking area, one of the brake pedals went straight to the floor. Thankfully, the Warrior does NOT have a free-castering nosewheel, and I was able to steer straight and brake with the remaining working brake. Scared the crap out of Dad when I asked him "Hey, do your brakes work?" :D Luckily, it was just that single activation that failed, and the brake resumed working immediately afterwards, but it only takes that one press to turn a free-castering airplane into disaster.
