If You don't mind me asking where did you get the work done? Also I've trying to figure out to make a walk way across the trampoline it's p erfect. Thanks

Great video! I had a couple questions for you if you don't mind? I'm planning a trip in a couple weeks to capers island, already have my permit but besides a little bit of research I do not know much other than what I can and cannot do and where I can and cannot go. This is all new to me, never been there before. I'm towing my 19.6 foot ken craft seeking 190 down there to drop into the water and I'm concerned about tides, where to drop anchor, and the path to get there from dropping my boat in. Any suggestions on where to drop my boat in? Hopefully, includes a good spot to park my truck and trailer on the mainland? Also any tips or tricks to dropping anchor for my boat or possible which end of the island is better for me since its a deep V center console? this location looks pretty good! Any recommendations for a newbie like myself? Its been awhile since I've been back in saltwater and I miss it! Thanks!

Usually there are lots of people with boats on this island during warm months. Most of them come just for the day and stay either on Northern or Southern inlets. If you want to stay there during the night I believe the place where we stayed is the best one. It is Northern part of the island. Our boat had at least 1 foot under the hull in low tide. You can see in the video that we anchored the bow of the boat to a log on the beach and the aft to the middle of the small inlet, so boat wouldn't go to the bank. In the high tide there isn't much room for the tents. Place where we had our tents stayed dry during the high tides. For the activities you can swim, have fire, walk along the beach. I believe you can go anywhere you want on this island since it is inhabited and not a private property. You can find more videos from Capers Island from 2021-02 on my channel. There will be lots of mosquitos.

I'm curious as to how much weight did you add to the boat after all your additions. I do remodeling and it seems that all though nice , all the additional wood has increased the boats weight somewhat. Have you noticed any difference in how it sails? Also was it difficult installing a pump out head in a Macgregor?
@yurioutdoors6422
@yurioutdoors6422 2 жыл бұрын
Please see below response from Ilya Dear David, yes, all my modifications have added a lot of extra weight. I had never weighted my boat but I would assume that all mods add about 900 to 1000lbs. Here is the list: 1-custom daggerboard with lead bulb 340 lbs 2-galley with heater 100 lbs 3-fresh water tank (45gal) under the rear berth 25 lbs for extra Fiberglass work and 334lbs in water. 4 -Rear bulkheads are another 150 lbs 5- rear berth latex 6 in mattress is 35 lbs 6- dinette table is another 20 lbs 7- various fiberglass reinforcements to daggerboard trunk (I thickened the walls by 100 %), all hatches have been reinforced, the head floor was redone and thickened, rudders. 8- 3/4 neoprene insulation probably added another 40 lbs. 10- I carry a lot of extra stuff for self sufficient sailing good for 3-4 weeks at a time, so that adds a lot of weight as well. In conclusion: my boat is not rigged for towing water skiers, so top speed is about 10knts with big 4 blade prop. I like to motor at 5.5 knots at 2200 rpm. Under sail my boat sails without water ballast like stock boat with water ballast in. With water ballast in, it becomes very stiff, (when I (180lbs) step on board it barely moves), I can sail close to the wind with full sails comfortably up to 16-17 knts of apparent wind healing at 15 degrees, at 20 knts at 30 degrees. I definitely reef before 20 apparent or 17 true. Generally speaking, sailing around Salish sea involves experiencing wind against tide situations often, both straights of Georgia and Juan de Fuca can throw steep closely spaced waves that with shake the soul out of you. In this conditions I noticed that my boat is not thrown around so easily, it cuts through 2 ft waves with much more confidence, stays on course also a bit better than stock boat. I do not have a pump out head. I have installed airhead composting toilet and would not go for anything else! You could probably see two hoses running at both corners in the head compartment, the one the right is vent hose for airhead, second one is a fill hose for 6 gal plastic water tank that I stopped using for two reasons. The first is that the water tastes terrible and the second one is the boat likes to ‘submarine" with all that weight very much up front. I did install it under the v berth in front of storage compartments where normally flotation foam is. I believe that proper marine head would be a difficult project to do that also will reduce storage by a lot, under the v berth

Thanx Ilya. I have been taking my time to finding the right water ballast sailboat which is not too large , but large enough to have a roomy self contained galley to support one to four week trips of coastal and/or large lake sailing. It would also have to have an enclosed head with a storage optional pump out toilet. Your modifications though some may think unreasonable are perfect for leisurely touring sailing in comfort in your MacGregor Their are some awesome manufactured trailer sailors out there from Poland, France and Germany to list a few, but they do come with a pretty high price. Ill probably end up with a 20 year old comparable Hunter or Catalina that has been well cared for and ready to go. Good luck with your endeavor and travels. I appreciate the time you gave me in your response. If anyone is familiar with the Young 870 from New Zealand, I have found very little information about them, nor a galley video review.

Obviously he doesn't know anything about boats. With all that crap on that boat he'll be lucky if he even gets half of it out of it. You can't put that much crap on the cheap folk and get your money back. It doesn't matter how much nice stuff you put on a cheap boat it's still a cheap boat. That's why I said he should have bought a real boat. Don't get me wrong I own a MacGregor 26. I'm smart enough not to do that

How does your auto pilot work? I didn’t see hydraulic steering on the motor
@yurioutdoors6422
@yurioutdoors6422 2 жыл бұрын
A small electrical motor is connected to steering wheel and not to the engine of the boat. You can see this small motor at seconds 5-7 of Part 2. It is a small metal cylinder in front of the steering wheel. Please look up Raymarine wheel pilot. That's what Ilya has on his boat.
