It always looks like to me that they start their turn way too early. Past the buoy then think about turning, but by the time they turn, their apex at turning is wider then. Try turning later. Let the buoy touch your leg at the end of the turn not the beginning.

3 years ago I had a really bad crash. Did ski quite well with no crashes. Madeleine my first ever full 16m, 52 kmh. Did use clinchers. Next run I had an early really, really strong pull towards 5. Skitip dig into second wake. Did hold on hard. Upper arm bone broke. Nervs to both hands broke. Could not lift the hands. Broke my neck. Reasonable ok now but can not ski 16m anymore. New ML rope started to fray

Great video! This was 1993 not 1989 though. Scot Ellis didn't start competing professionally until 1990 and it was only called the Bud Water Ski Tour in 1993-1995.

❤ Looking for advice for an unusual problem. In many years of slalom skiing, I’ve always found it easy to come up out of the water as long as I press very hard with my back leg, to stabilize the ski. Unfortunately, I’ve recently been diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm; my cardiologist (also a skier) has cautioned me that that portion of the ski run could prove fatal to someone with my condition since, when I strain like that, especially if holding my breath, systolic pressure can momentarily rise high enough to rupture my weakened aorta, causing instant death. I’m looking for a technique (or preferably a ski) that doesn’t require me to press so hard with my leg. Have you any advice more preferable than that of my cardiologist, which is to quit slalom skiing altogether?

@@Mobev1 planes aren’t fun, going 75 mph in rough conditions in a lake race thinking ahead by pacing yourself to last the whole race at those speeds while simultaneously staying ahead of your rivals is much harder, funner and better than wake boarding.

Hello Joel! Christine Bradstreet here. Wow, I somehow missed this video even though I've watched and learned from so many of yours! Thank you for the coaching and I'm sorry for my late response. I have good news! Over the past year, I've been doing what you suggest. I've been crossing the wake with a better angle, pulling through the 2nd wake, and making a more pronounced edge change before the turn. That's given me snappier turns, no slack in the line, and no stalling on my off side. My husband got a rope with a training section that's 18.5 off and now I can run the course with that shorter line. Next is 22 off 😄 Fun fact - you were in the boat at Coble Ski School the first time I got all 6 buoys. And yes, this is on Lake Howard in Winter Haven FL. Waterski capital of the world! Thank you again. Your videos are helping a lot of people learn. We've been telling our friends about them. Cheers!

We joined a ski club last September. I’ve been free skiing since I was 9. Same ski since early teens, now 37. They convinced me I needed a new ski. Got a D3 Arc. Felt like my old ski, comfortable, does what I tell it. With a lot of coaching from other members I got through the course. Once. Cant manage it again. Getting tons of slack as soon as I go around a buoy now. I’ve been doing a lot of listening to what they tell other members. Sounds like you ski 15 and 22 off differently than you ski 28+ off. If it’s skied so much differently, why does everyone start at 15 off? On the same note, why not 0 off? The one time I got through the course I had so much space for buoy 6, I was looking for the next buoy. I feel like I’m just getting started skiing by the time we’re at the end of the lake and have to stop. Pretty frustrating and hard to practice anything. Is this just something I have to get use to? I feel like I need to go free ski a lake to figure out how to ski again!
