Hi, thank you for your wonderful story on your adoption & the information. I have finished foster care In Maryland 7 months. With All the mandated licencing-etc I want to adopt two 17 yr old sisters on the photo listing with Heart Gallery. They are in another state. Could you please direct me if I would need an agency and do All their requirements or a home study with agency towards adoption? Or your view would really be so welcomed and appreciated! Thank you & God Bless

Thank you for your great question, and congrats on completing the foster care licensing process, that is a very time-consuming task. You need to get a home study done either by your foster care licensing agency or a private child placement agency. You will need to find one who is willing to help you submit your home study to the Heart Gallery and be willing to attend a best-interest staffing on your behalf. Check with your foster care licensing agency first to see if they can help you with this process.

What types of questions should we ask at the staffing?
@steffanyaye
@steffanyaye 5 ай бұрын
Great question! The hopeful adoptive families are generally not present for this (we were not present for our daughters). The people present for the staffing are the staff who have worked with the child and your home study social worker is there to represent you. In addition, it is usually the staff who work with the child that is doing all the asking of questions about the hopeful adoptive family, not the other way around.

A lot of adoptees have expressed that they didn't feel like they could talk to their adoptive families about their adoption, because it was never discussed by their parents first as they grew up, so they took that to mean it was an off-limit topic.

@@steffanyaye These statements maybe true, but it's not that easy in real life to smile, and give him the support he needed from me because it waa important to him , but we adopted our son at five month's, and he was a happy child. I during his childhood I would forget he was adopted, then when I did think about it I became very nervous. You see we are their mothers that went through all the ups and downs taking care of a child. They are our pride and joy, but some how the birth mother is what they have wanted see, wanted to find out about her family. I am going to say something I am not proud of, it seems to me that writers, media people glorify the birth mother, focus on their reunion and now the adoptee is full filled, now his life is completed . This is all he ever wanted. My job is done now he is with his real mother...but my heart is broke into pieces.

What is your definition of persistence? We been waiting over 10 years and have experienced four failed adoptions. We are now being told that we are too old and have too many failed adoptions. It also appears that their are hundreds if not thousands of couples in our same situation. Our agencies blames COVID, birth rates, and lack of adoption situations. When do we need to be persistence and when do we need to push our agencies to find a valid match for us?
@steffanyaye
@steffanyaye Жыл бұрын
That is awful to hear how much you have gone through in order to add a child to your family. As an agency, we did experience a decline in adoptions during COVID as the birth rate did decline during this time. We encourage our families to work with more than one adoption professional at a time to increase their odds of an opportunity to adopt.

What does your agency do to prevent failed adoptions? I have to question if adoption situations presented by the agency are real or just a way for a expectant mother to cover her hospital delivery costs. I also don't understand how an adoption agency determines if an expectant mother is committed to her adoption plan. Especially, if the agency does not get proof of pregnancy or the expectant mother's legal name.
@steffanyaye
@steffanyaye Жыл бұрын
We learn all we can about an expecting mom before we begin working with her. We want to make sure we are the right fit for her and her adoption plan. We get proof of pregnancy along with social and medical history information, in addition, we only work with moms in KS or MO so we are able to meet with them in person. An adoptive family should not be on the hook for a mom's delivery cost if she decides to parent her child.
@exploitthechildless1510
@exploitthechildless1510 Жыл бұрын
@@steffanyaye So what protections are in place for proof of pregnancy? We had one criminal purchase proof of pregnancy from the receptionist at an OB/GYN. The agency in this case stated that they were not an law enforcement agency. And how do you get reimbursed for delivery costs at the hospital? We were required to pay upfront for these expenses.
@steffanyaye
@steffanyaye Жыл бұрын
@@exploitthechildless1510 We obtain medical records from the doctor's office directly. I have heard of a lot of ways proof of pregnancies can be falsified, but never to that degree!! I was total opposite. I knew if I held him and fed him and just bonded even more with him he would have came home and as a mother of 2 who knew she couldn’t do it again, that was something I could not risk. I would have brought him home realized exactly the same, except I would never give him up then. In my mind also, it would not have been fair to him. To me, I bonded with him for 9 months already. His mother did not get that time. Bonding is very powerful for both baby and mom. In my mind I was doing what was best for both of them to have a good chance for them to bond. I needed that. So she got to hold him, she was there to meet him. She got the skin to skin and the time in the hospital, not me. She got all the firsts I got to experience with my first two. She got to experience everything short of having him herself. I guess for me I needed to see that he would be ok with her. He did not need to bond with me anymore and I did not need to get in the way of them doing so. A lot of people did not agree with me and said I would regret not bonding with him. But I think that I did the best thing to lessen the separation and for him to “forget” me for now. That was in 2021. I did see them all together before my husband and I left. I did not speak for the longest time. For fear he would hear me and I would ruin everything I just did. He heard me for 9 months. He was in her arms sleeping, when I spoke and he perked up. I almost lost it, but then he fell back into her arms and that was that fast asleep. He knew, but it was more like oh there’s that voice I been hearing. Like a friend that never left and was always around. That’s when I knew they would be ok ❤
