Great stuff. Thanks for sharing. Have you ever experienced the moire effect? If so, do you have any hacks to overcome it?

Loved the explanation about how to expose properly .. but is it true that we need to overexpose 1 or 2 stops for vlog?
@CallmedstoneАй бұрын
Brilliant stuff man. You have better taste in cameras than furniture. Do you find yourself wishing you had an external recorder ? Ive been going back and forth on the s5, the IPB compression is what makes me hesitate, but when i compared the all-i data rates of the s5 ii x and did the math on it, the resolution on a per frame basis was worse. To throw a wrench into all of this: do you think v-log vs standard profiles made a difference? Will check out the rest of your channel.

it depends..... if u are a solo shooter and you have to do an event a good af, sensor, high iso helps. For prepared scenes it doesn t matter

i’m choosing between s5 and s5ii. The mark II is twice expensive, and i think of getting the first one. What do you think? Is autofocus that bad on the first model?

Awesome stuff! If shooting VLOG on S5ii the image is grey.. do you just view that grey image and use the exposure square... or do you use an internal LUT or external monitor with LUT etc, cheers chief :)

💪 Good advices. I have the S5 and S5 ii, coming from GH5. I was shooting for 5 years on an Nikon D5300 with 35mm f 1.8 (photography and camera B) on film with Gh5 viltrox speedbooster and an 24-70mm Tamron G2 f2.8 + Tokina 11-20mm f2.8 (camera A for videography). I can say i miss the look of Gh5 with viltrox speedbooster... You just needed to give them more light and the look was great on the natural profiles ( sharpness down, contrast down, saturation a lil down, shadows a lil higher, highlights down, noise reductions a lil down and you have an custom V-log) The motive was to have a hybrid camera for photography & videography with good ISO and when i need to explain something in front the camera with a F-Stop of 2.8 the AF needed to be just good, or if i need to shoot something that needs a lil AF. S5 ii & S5 are great to have both, depends for what you need them. *The downsides i see coming from GH5: - Very sharp look & Plastic looking on HD - S5 ii drain your battery if you let it in camera over night (can damage the battery permanently) - Moire effect on some buildings & cloths - Crop on 4K 50p/ 60p (sometimes i need to think about what lenses should i buy) - The time limit recording on S5 Love the: - V-log (easy to color grade) - Great colors - ISO performance on photo & video - Good battery that last - Good menu's and buttons alignment - Ok Stabilization - Good features ( shutter angle, zebra's, vector scope, focus peak, LUT assist for V-log) - AF is great on S5 ii for casual photography and videography and i saw S5 is great to if you give him more light.

very sensible advice I was looking at the S5iix, but I have the Black Magic 12G Video Assist that can record to ProRes, so I can get an S5 for half the price

thanks for this the grading was so stunning, which shows how valid your camera settings and lighting setup was for the V-log

thanks, this was very useful! regarding keeping the aperture fixed throughout the shoot, I expect there can be exceptions for close-ups where you may want a shallower DOF, vs wide or establishing shots where you want everything in focus what’s your take on this?

It's pretty close. fairly close. not very very close. but good. what you got wasn't thanks to the camera though. you could've gotten that with anything that shoots 1080p pretty much because there is no need for a lot of dynamic range - since there isn't much. higher bitrate, such as 10 bits is probably appreciated to get it nicely smooth. 4.2.2 is also kinda overkill for this low contrast. So yea, this was mostly skill, not camera. even my old XT2 could've done that I'm sure. BUT, skill is what you really want, camera is just a tool and camera's fade, skills do not. well done. was fun to watch.

Hiya, watch the behind the scenes video I made 👍
@RugbyPass818 ай бұрын
This is such an important video. It gives me another source of information to point beginner filmmakers and students to when they ask me questions at screenings and so on. I have told students and new filmmakers alike, a million times "do NOT obsess over gear; the camera is just a tool, _you_ are the artist and you're the one that brings something that was previoisly just a concept in your mind to life on a screen" Inevitably however, this is always met by a perplexed look, followed by the same question again; "okay but should I get the S1H or an S5....or a GH6 OR GH5 andddd then there's the BMPCC 6K ANDDDD...andddd" At this point I usually zone out and lose interest. Fundamentals first, execution second, gear last. Great work mate, it's nice to see someone else explaining this.

Dude your approach is admirable. However suggesting that you'd keep your camera settings locked and finesse your lighting (as you draw squiggles on a static subject onscreen) is misleading. Particularly if the lighting in a scene is not controllable. Contrary to what you say, the big (DP) fish try to light to a preferred stop however if the moment calls for it, they adapt and modify their approach. Period.
@CarterCreativeContent8 ай бұрын
Off course you have to be flexible. However, this method is used professionally and I use it all the time so stand by it.
