Generally I just get the Kroger cubed ham, but this past week, there was Smithfield ham steaks on sale, and being the cheapo that I am, I just bought one of those and sliced it to cubes myself. Then used on some homemade pizzas. They were pretty good. The crust wasn't great, I got this 25 pound bag of pizza crust mix some time ago and I think it is going stale. I think that was the issue with the crust. Honestly, back on topic, sometimes when I make homemade pizza (or french bread pizza) I just get the sliced deli ham and use it as the topping. That works ok. But I have also started making omelets for breakfast lately, and the cubed ham works pretty good in those, so I will probably continue to get cubed ham or ham steaks for our homemade pizza, then I can add any leftover ham to the omelet. When I was in Uganda, actually, the street vendors would sell these omelets made with shredded cabbage and peppers and onions, then the cooked up and served on a chapati (kind of like a thick tortilla) and rolled up and sometimes they would slice some fresh tomatoes on them as well and they were so good, so that is usually what my omelet turns into. Put some cheese on a tortilla and warm it up on the griddle while the omelet cooks, then put the omelet on it and slice some fresh tomatoes on and roll it up. Oh also, nice video.

You know, a game released its second edition in 2022 called Orconomics that has an extremely similar gameplay loop to Catan. It is pretty solidly in the C tier of games and almost no one has heard of it. I think that is about where Catan would be if released today. Totally cool to have you opinion, but nostalgia is definitely the only reason Catan is in the conversation.

This is a great review. I feel like you covered the games features really well. I love this game and have played it quite a bit. The sweet spot/difficulty slider I have found is that the 2 chapter game is very hard and pretty short, the 3 chapter game is a good difficulty and nice length, and the 4 chapter game is pretty easy and fairly long. I feel like you really get to ramp up during the first 2 chapters and in the 3 chapter game you get to use that power to turn the game in your favor, but if you play the 4th chapter it is more often juat an opportunity to flex on your adversaries. Others might disagree with that, but that has been my experience.

We've had so many games that came down to the last die roll it's crazy. But yeah, if you don't do the right difficulty you might find yourself in exactly what you describe! Luckily, you can tune up or down basically anything to your liking. Fewer starting resources, action points etc? Sure. More starting enemiess? Sure! Have bigger enemy decks so you don't run out? Why not! The system is very robust, so do whatever you want with it!

Yes! I love the note in (if I remember correctly) the Titans expansion that the game is as customizable as you want it to be, and that Uprising “can take it.” The only thing I’ve actually removed from the game is the legion who permanently takes away an action point (the Courtesan, maybe?). I *love* the Legion who takes away an action point until you’ve killed them, but the former popping up early has just been too devastating for me. Thank you for reaching out!!

This might be a longer one so please bear with me. Let me start by saying that I really love your style of videos. I just recently discovered your channel but I could not stop watching your videos since then. I love your humour and the ongoing story arc. I think your reviews are helpful and informative and your lists and stuff are much fun. Now... I think I should introduce myself. I'm Alex, 35 years old and I'm a game designer from a small town in Germany called Geilenkirchen. I haven't been in the hobby for long but I try to learn as much as I can about different games and mechanisms to improve my own designs - and because I love playing board games of course. I also dabble in writing and love movies - especially from the 80s. The game that brought me into the hobby was Everdell and it is still one of my favorites - maybe nostalgia plays a role here but I can't not like it. The game that is on top of my wishlist is - for the moment - Life in the Amazonia. I'm kind of a "come for the theme and/or artwork and stay for the gameplay" person. This video gave me another game for my wishlist. Curse of the Last Emperor looks really interesting. I won't go out of my way to get it but I really want to play it now and see if it really is for me. Thanks for introducing me to this game. I think you'll see me around more often from now on. Can't wait for new videos - until then I'll watch every single one of your previous ones. P.S. I like your new look. I was so confused at first because I noticed something was different but I could not figure out what it was. Even though it is quite obvious if I look at your thumbnails now 😂

I stopped buying games, drastically. I might get one a year, if that and even then I have to have played it and it has to have some pretty good “hype” to go along with it. Last game I got was Ark Nova. I only ever did one Kickstarter (Lords of Hellas) and learned my lesson that nonsense. When you go from “hobbyist” to “collector”, you’ve lost sight of the point. Stop buying games. Put that money in an IRA or something. Rediscover the fun of actually PLAYING GAMES with friends. It really is a relief to not look at shelves full of unplayed games or games that have only been played once. Or games still in shrink wrap?? Now you’re just a box storage facility. I wouldn’t buy a game unless I’ve played all the ones I had at least 10 times each. If you don’t feel inclined to do that, sell it! Be VERY picky about new game purchases. Like I said, Ark Nova was my last purchase and that was because I’d played it twice with another gaming group. If you can’t stop buying games, you need to reevaluate your need to spend, on a much deeper level. 🤷🏻♂️
@boardandsaviorgames19 күн бұрын
I’m kind of with you, kind of not… “collecting” is a valid hobby, too. I think the biggest problems come when people don’t realize that they’ve shifted the focus from playing to collecting-if it’s a conscious decision, more power to them!
@Tennethums119 күн бұрын
@@boardandsaviorgames Admittedly, when I hear the word “collecting”, my mind goes to comic books or Magic cards; is this a good “investment”, strictly in a monetary sense. I know that’s not always the case for who buy them, though I’m not sure why someone would “collect” board games to the point of never playing them? They don’t hold/increase in value, really. You’ll be lucky to break even on most games…especially if every time I we turn around it seems they come out with some new/revised/improved/“big box” nonsense for it. Certainly, to each his own but man, I’m so glad I gave up on buying them for buying’s sake. It was a relief for my gaming group as well. I learned after the fact that much of the time they wanted to just stick with one game for a while, in order to understand the nuance and strategy, rather than to kind of learn it, kind of play it…and then it was off to a new game!
@boardandsaviorgames19 күн бұрын
I think I’m mostly in the same boat, but there are a few games that offer such an interesting and unique promise that I’ll pick them up knowing that the stars really have to align to get them to the table. And even when it’s not landing on the table, I’ll still enjoy it by taking pieces out and looking at them (yeah, I’m a really cool person)
@Tennethums118 күн бұрын
@@boardandsaviorgames Ha! Yeah, I get it, for sure. I have a room in my house that’s literally “the library” as it’s wall to wall books my gf and I buy. My collection of Warhammer 40k books alone is pretty stunning, ha! It’s nice to just sit in there and grab something off the shelf, even if it’s just for a few minutes with no intention of finishing it any time soon. Just to “disappear” in a page or two, then back to life… There is a kind of comfort in that and sometimes, it might be the only good thing we have going for us at the moment! I also paint minis and sometimes I buy a game based on those alone, simply because the quantity of minis equates to less than $1/pc and for a mini…that’s pretty damn good! God Tear is like that for me; have a ton of the minis I’ve painted, but have yet to really sit and play the game.
