Very good commentary guys and your drone pilot and cameraman must be sailors as their shots and angles were perfect, well done.

One of the few sports where one most work with Nature for every aspect of progress. Without lots of fossil fuels. This is an excellent compilation of video shot during the 2023 race, very high quality.

How cool is that . 80th, sounds good to me. Haven't been to Sydney for a while ,might have to make it in the 80th year. Great club. I loved sailing out of there, especially for ocean races. Enjoy the year!! Bless you all, safe and happy sailing.

My boat, the 1974 Swanson 30, Mulberry competed in this race, her last of 6 S2Hs under different ownership. We still race her and to good effect down here in Hobart on the Derwent.

Gee, that Chris Dickson, skipper of Sayonara, his crewman Justin Clougher, and the Nokia guy David Witt, all talk like psychopaths. They mouth the words of sympathy and tragedy, but they're not really there emotionally. Philosophically, "those things happen when you race at sea". Yep, the deaths from their little sports race was "so that's a bit of a shame". I wonder if HIS WIFE and children would would feel the same if HE had not returned from his 3 days of extreme egoistic fun.

Going backwards in the video collection. Watched the last 3 years live. I race on Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. Ocean's seem to roll, but Great Lakes are always confused when you are in the middle! Got to go out on the Old 12 meter America's Cup boat named Intrepid. When I was on it, it was called the Intrepid Wind Dancer. My uncle was a full time crew on it. Never got to race on it! Although I did watch a Nelsson and Merek 36 named Moody Blue, (Google that boat name), pass it with just their main up. Wind Dancer had everything up! It was impressive for sure!

Most sailors will never understand the feeling of falling off a moving boat. What you do when you hit the water, will be the difference between survival or not. Panic is the last thing to do. When I was 12 (1982) Before I was allowed to race IOR races, I had to take survival courses at my local Yacht Club. Jump in with full rain suit and boots. And stay up for 60 minutes, only using my coat for a make shift flotation device. I am watching the media jump off the back, and it brought back a memory! I am a great lakes sailor. I think I would really enjoy racing this race. Love heavy weather sailing, for some reason. I blame my childhood! 😂🤣⛵⛵⛵keep the heavy side down! Cheers!

I am biased. I came across this video by accident last night. I never met Trygve Halverson but his brother Magnus was my uncle. Magnus Halverson was the most humble person I have ever met and watching this video, Trygve was cut from the same cloth.

Not to make light of the Tragedy or loss of life... BUT Im surprised Someone like Peter Berg or Christopher Nolan, or Even Jerry Brukenheimer havent done a Movie about the 98 Race! It is one of those True films where their is absolutely no reason to Doctor the The Storyline because this Had it ALL! Romance, Wealthy, Overachiever, Olympic Athlete, Legendary Yahts, and Skippers,1st Timers and People who had no business in the race.... Lets Not Forget Absolutely Steller Helicopter Pilots and Rescue Crews! I Think it would be a TOTAL BlockBuster Film / "RESPECTFULLY"
@lightningmcqueen1816 ай бұрын
I bet you have to be an Unbelievable Heli Pilot to fly Rescue Birds!! To Hold a Hover @ 70 , 80knot Gusting Wind, Rain & Ocean Spray! With a Rescue swimmer on a Leash , dangling just above the Seas, & to Effectively Basket Rescue Survivors in that 💩 from the sea to up to a hovering bird!?!?!

Congratulations to all of the competitor's in this year's 2023 RSHYR. Sailors are a very special breed of person and the Racing Sailors even more Corageous. Huge Congratulations to all the Winners and place getters you all deserve a massive pat on the back. I do think for such a prostigeous Yacht Race as this that the trophie and medal winners should have been front and Centre on the stage, not just tacked on the end, where even the lighting was dim. The Council members should have been on the opposite end. These incredibly Strong, Talented and Brave individuals really bring, the love, enthusiasm, and Spirit of Sailing to Australia and the World. Let's go Sailing!!! 🇦🇺⛵

Too much big boat coverage. The smaller "Joe" racer boats are nearly absent from the exposure... The fastnet gets better and even coverage for all classes. More informative , more interesting and certainly more appealing to the week-end racers...
