it is funny to an extent to look at this video even today the stryx z690-a is still one of the best if not the best 2 sticks ddr4 overclocking motherboard. the msi z690s that may have been quite decent when gen 12 was released, tend to cap at 4266/43000 ddr4 (silicon quality may allow a bit more ), a value that most 13th and 14th higher end cpu can do in gear 1, to the point that a kit like gkills f4-4400c17-32gvk cannot even boot at stock xmp. while with the asus you can actually boot at 4500+ gear 1 with it (Imc variance dependent ).So no, the msi ones didnt matched the z690-a in memory oc.

Tighter the timings the more numerous the DDR5's onboard ECC use. Wouldn't be surprised if some vendors are sacraficing speed for advertised CAS latency.

About the workstation/Fire Pro cards, I'd say that in all likelihood the choice of capacitors has more to do with reliability then performance. I don't design video cards, but I do use workstations/mobile workstation (laptops) at my day job. I've sent back leased laptops around 6-9 months early because it was cheaper to eat the remainder of the lease then the user downtime over a 2 week period. In enterprise/workstations the hardware are cheap compared to the payroll and licenses.

Has anyone gotten this MB to boot properly with DDR5 and memory training? They also have a lot of trouble doing "restarts" I've gone through 3 RAM kits and they all do the same thing so I"m pretty sure its MB thing.

Probably best to leave everything to intel spec except cep. Then if you have a bad cpu just underclock it by 100-200mhz and undervolt.

Nice Vid, what a throwback. I was benching my 980 Hof a few times between 2015 and 2017. My best bench got a graphics score of 16.763 but thanks to my i7 5775c my overall score was just over 14.000. I didn't know the trick with LOD though, sad that my 980 is dead and i cant test that -.-'' Also didn't check what memory i had since i wasn't really aware that it could make a difference at that time.

Thanks for the great info you keep feeding us with, Glad I manage to run tight timings on low voltages @ 8000/2200 Cl36-45-40-85 with 480 trfc n max trefi @ 1,42 VDD , 1,35 DQ also with PDM disabled, but I don't use MCR since it's somehow keeps sending me instability issues & BSODs, So far stable on Karhu, Y cruncher, but the strange thing I found is it wasn't very smooth until I did 2200FCLK on Gene MB with A-die 6400 kit, 2007 Bios

My 14900k had to be downed to 125 PL1 and 253 PL2 in order to not crash in Helldivers 2. I can’t get above 31k Cinebench 23 score now, and I feel like I wasted $600 on a high end processor. I’m considering returning it for an AMD chip, because this is ridiculous.

Star Citizen *will not* run at anything resembling playable performance with E-cores turned on with my 12600k. And on any other intel CPU from what I can gather. Which is insane to me.

The exact same thing as you described happened to the power stage on my Dell rtx 3080ti. It burnt right through the pcb to the other side. Totally unsaveable unless someone's willing to do a hack job and hopefully run the card with 1 or 2 fewer power stages. Wouldn't mind seeing if it's possible though lol

My 980ti failed likely on the power side, as a dry cap on the motherboard caught fire just upstream of it, pc never turned off and apps never crashed right up until my reaction speed to reach over and yank the psu power cord out. Seeing this video made me feel loads better about my card dying extremely unexpectedly, one day. I wanna open it up and see if it's repairable.
