I've been going back and forth between the Rebel 300 and 500. My last bike was a Harley 1200 Sportster, but nothing ever felt as fun and simple to ride like my old 2013 250 Rebel. That was the only bike i ever enjoyed riding. Yeah, it struggled to hit 50mph, but i didn't care. I just ripped that throttle and had a blast. Good times. Question: Have you had the chance to ride both models at all. I love your 500 content but was curious on your thoughts between each model. Cheers!
@sergeantwombat
@sergeantwombat 2 күн бұрын
The little single cyl of the 300 leaves a bit to be desired, the 500 is a perfect middle ground where it isnt fast but still isnt slow. Plenty of torque for corners but will never get away from you, exhaust not is also better

Great video amd timing. Saturday was the first time I've ever ridden with people. 51, been riding for 31 years, but, always been a loner type. Started as a rip around the county, wound up being a day trip to Biloxi, MS (from Georgia) and back, and with 12 total riders. I settled in about 30 mins into it, and had a blast.

A big part of the issue is that bikes have become more and more specialized within their model segments as the marketing leads the engineering. So if the purchaser has a desire that aligns closely to that segment, the choice is easy. If they want a riding experience that goes across the traditional market boundaries then it becomes either a lot more difficult or you are looking at the start of a bike collection.

It's easy to buy a new bike. Get the one that has that je ne sais quoi. I have a habit of looking into a thing to buy and making a decision logistically, then getting my hands on it and choosing a slightly different one. First gun when from a 6" s&w 686+ to the 4", because it handles better and has everything you need. Wanted a 1200xe, but sat on in and the XC, and the XC was Goldilocks.

The XSR is an all time favourite so I would pick that. There is the shotgun 650 that reminds me slightly of the Bonneville bobber and it looks amazing. You can simply add or remove the second seat when needed. You probably are after more power though but just a thought.

Easiest solution... BUY ALL THE BIKES! Honestly though, anything CP3 will be fun. Be some cheaper ones coming up now the new gen SP launched. On that topic Im wanting something new.. New 09SP tickles me and would fit well next to the 10.. but Im thinking a completely different type to mix it up. Motard or something slow and fun. Im kinda stuck too lol Get something 2-5 years old... Set a budget and give yourself "extra" because you might find a good deal just outside of your budget. Also remember, if you dont like it, sell it.. but something else. Great experience and you get to ride ride more bikes!

Advice you're going to dislike: keep on riding the 125 for a while more. The best riders I've met have all spent at least 2 yrs on a small bike. Once everything about the handling becomes second nature, you can switch to something bigger and focus just on managing the throttle. You'll feel the pros of this later, when you ride alongside people that started on big bikes and are scared to handle them because they developed some nasty habits while learning

I want a new bike.. just can't find anything without compromises I don't like... just sticking with my Rebel 1100 still. Thinking about getting a 2025 Indian Scout Classic though, but dealers so far away from me, and 3rd party support isn't out there yet with the redesign. I ran into that with my Rebel when it was new and had to fabricate some of my own parts. I have no budget constraints at all, but just can't find anything I want that works for me right... but bikes are made for men in mind, so many just aren't for me.

@@sergeantwombat Scout comfort seems a bit better, and it looks much much better... and I hate the stupid chain on the Rebel. I've ridden a lot of bikes, but being under 100 lbs and barely 5 foot in boots, they don't really make bikes with me in mind. I would love something like a big giant bagger, scaled down to fit me, but still work good for long trips and lots of storage. Just my 2cents worth but I think it's better to buy a pre loved bike rather than a new one. If you buy a new one you have to pay full price then spend heaps on extras whereas if you buy a nearly new one it will be a lot cheaper and if the previous owner is like me they would have already added all the extras. If I was getting another bike I would get one with shaft drive ( because I'm lazy) and 25 years or older as you can put it on historic rego. My bike is an 82 VF 750 with a sidecar and for 3 years rego. it cost me $227. Also because it on historic rego. it costs me just over $10 a month for $10500 full comprehensive insurance.
