I remember seeing these guys at the "Fallout Shelter" in Reno, ca 1994... It was rad! We danced our asses off... There was an extra "side-project album" that they sold then, it was called "The Shatners"; all Star Trek themed, with a hilarious interview with someone's grandpa at the end... "I'll put a quarter in your goddamn can!"

The Neons are considered to be the first white doo wop group with a hit record, Angel Face, there's an article in the New York Times called the durability of Doo Wop, explaining how Raul Cita the creator of the Harptones arranged and tightened the Neons' music production. Here's a fun fact, the label owner made a deal with Ponds to create Angel Face Cream. The group used to sing and give advice to the Mystics before they got big themselves. The small label shut down after a year causing all their songs to nosedive off the charts, sad.

I recently heard a nearly identical part in a classical piece, which surly preceded this by ages... so yes, this song is plagiaristic, too.

Louis Jordan was doing stuff like this through the 1940's. The transition from "race" records to "rock 'n roll" was more about crossover marketing terminology, just like "rap" to "hip hop".

I really appreciate your channel - very, very impressive. I have Robert Ferlingere's discography. After that, any recommendations for authoritative sources for doo wop, particularly with artist/title cross-references? I often listen to the online Doo Wop Radio channel out of Melbourne, Florida. Sometimes, there is no indication of artist or title, and while I can sometimes guess at a title, I'd like to be able to check if I got it right. The internet is sometimes helpful, but some of these old songs are very rare and do not show up. Your advice? Thanks!
