This is the _truth_ about disc brakes. Too bad so sad most people fail to understand the mechanical realities. I could list more reasons why disc brakes suck for the average rider. For one, each time you fix a flat (or pull a wheel for any reason), your calipers may need to be realigned. For another, some disc brake setups have a tendency to make awful squealing noises, with no solution or workaround. Disc brakes are an expensive step backwards for many riders' overall experience.

It’s common for that happen when you leave a tool out or keep a tool in a warm environment for a long period time moths will lay their eggs in anything is tiny and they can just refill it with dirt. That’s here right here.

I have Avid juicy 3 on my 2011 Felt Q920. The bike sat in my dads garage for 8 years without riding. I fixed the bike in 2022, the brakes started working after a bleed, but they are corroded to hell and leak fluid. I need to bleed them almost every month and the pistons are sticky so the pads rub the rotors more often than not. At least I have learnt my lesson on keeping bikes maintained, I'm going to replace the brakes with shimano mt200 next year. I also have an air fork on the bike that has never been serviced, so I'm thinking of just giving that job to a professional 😂

I know that yours is a fixie but I enjoy riding on 48-10 sram axs gearing for hours (high torque low cadence for the win). I have 58kgs and you can't even imagine the stares I get when going in the gym because of my big daddy calves. Around 50-55 cadence average on the flats 30-35kmh

My friend got a new bike yesterday and it came with a pair of avid elixirs. The rear one felt super spongy and now I'm afraid of what the local mechanic might dig up from it once it enters the shop for service 😅

The reason why old avids, sram, Hayes and hope brakes all end up developing that “mold” or gunk is the dot 5.1 hydraulic fluid. The fluid deteriorates the rubber seals over time as well as corrodes aluminum when exposed to air for long periods of time. Most brands do sell rebuild kits but honestly the industry as of now have realized mineral oil works just fine and can withstand high pressure no problem as well as high heat which is the whole reason 5.1 was first used. It was believed to perform better but 20+ yrs later and clearly one is easier to deal with than others.

We're ripping out a lock stone walkway to the front of somebody's house and there was like 13 toads living in it underneath the paved asphalt that had been installed after the lock stone was finalized. Probably the only food that those guys got over the years was whatever slipped Through the polymer sand.

i have heard of some people referring to sram code, guide, and level brakes call them avid codes, guides, levels, and so on. i think avid made the codes and maybe the guides (or at least they were under the avid name for a while) before they became the sram model. or maybe it is just people who miss avid and dont want to call them sram brakes.
