The real reason why the temple was destroyed was their double lifestyle and adoption of foreign gods which in modern terms is liberalism and democracy. Their double standard leads to the formation of different groups such as Sadducees and Pharisees and secularists just as today there are different political parties and secularism under democracy and many religious sects, this led to the birth of Christianity. You see,nothing breeds more hatred and bring more disunity and destructions than a way of life with a double standard. Also,money becomes the masters, because such materialism over right morality and the mockery of justice was prevalent like now with Hamas/UN/democrats and liberals, it led to the existence of Islam. And that's why we suffer from them until now. The Talmud despised this double standard in such a way that it says like this...if the temple is not rebuild in one's lifetime,it is as if he destroys it. Why do people live double standard life? Because they are not happy with their lot, they want something more which is not theirs, as such all the sins that follows (e.g idolatry,sexual promiscuity,killing,lashon hara,having a haughty spirit) are committed as a rebellion against G-d's sovereignty.So, To rebuild that was destroyed already,we must eliminate what destroys and led to destructions in the first place.
