when i was in dka, i lost so much weight my smile changed. i was still recognizable, but i looked completely different. one night, i woke up and asked for APPLE JUICE. then i had to pee. then of course, i felt nauseous. a next day later, i went to the doctor...the doctor didnt know so they sent me to er. but then they sent me to childrens and then theres that kind of horrible story..but best part was when i got out i got pizza !!

Tomorrow marks my 6 month anniversary of being a type 1 diabetic and believe me, the hospital experience was scary too, especially on Christmas eve/day. Before I got diagnosed I experienced frequent urination, excessive thirst, feeling tired, eating a lot, had a fruity taste in my mouth and had blurry vision. I also had irregular bleeding like I was on my period but it turned out from the doctors that I had ketones in my blood and had dka which is a life threatening disease, it's also the reason that I started vomiting and sweating after I drank a venti peach green tea lemonade at Starbucks and then hours later tried to eat mac and cheese but had soup the day before Christmas and my skin began to turn gray, my eyes started to get glassy and my legs were shaking like I literally felt like I was going to collapse. I also had a bucket in the passenger's seat on the way to the ER in case I vomited again. But I'm just glad that I got sent to the hospital otherwise my symptoms could have gotten worse and my life could have taken a darker turn. My blood sugar was at 400 and they hooked me up with wires and a monitor to keep the blood sugar low, especially a blood pressure pump that I had to sleep with because it was terrible the night I slept at the ICU. And they also woke me up every hour to take my blood sugar and gave me some ice chunks to eat because I couldn't eat or drink anything until the next morning. They also gave me this salty orange juice that I drank for protein but it was such a scary experience for a half a day being in the hospital getting treated for my diabetes. Now here I am taking my insulin before and after meals, testing my blood sugar, eating less and losing weight naturally so you're not alone. This is just what the new lifestyle for type 1 diabetics is like and things do get tough in the beginning but as time progresses it's something that you're easily getting used to for the rest of your life and I know that you'll do great still! Keep staying strong! You've got this!
