Nice publication.. At 0:52 would it be a joke or tease with the babysitters? Who will know... At 1:41 to 1:50, scenes of Argentina and Holland at the soccer world cup, possibly 1974... And at 5:10 onwards, a rare record of lightness in some disembarkation at some train station... Times gone by that won't come back.

Só 'n besondere stukkie geskiedenis van ons land, maar mens kon beswaarlik uitmaak wat die persoon sê.. ook was die interessante geskiedenis wat getoon was, slegs vir 'n sekonde of twee 🤔

Wow, this certainly brought back memories of my firing days at Voorbaai. I know both those garratts very well. Give me 4072 over 4122 any day. Sadly they robbed 4072s boiler and placed it onto 4122s frames in 1998 or so. They then scrapped 4072s frames and 4122s boiler. The two drivers in your clip are wonderful Twakies Barnard who was a great chap to work with and the one out in the rain is Manitjies Visser. Sadly neither of them are with us today. Thanks for posting

Wow, very good quality video - I'm most impressed. I took the same journey in about 20 year later, it looked just the same. Video in on my channel (if you are interested). Mind you your video quality is better than my DV recoding.

Thank you for posting this video. I’ve taken this train from Fish Hoek to Cape Town for ten years 2008 - 2018, and it’s educational to see what the journey was like decades ago 👍🏽🇿🇦

Not sure if you know about this little thing called apartheid. Also, most people hang out with people who look like them and have the same values. This applies to every race on the planet.

The old tunnel is the oldest rail tunnel in south Africa, maybe the oldest rail tunnel in Sub-Saharan Africa. The new tunnel is the longest rail tunnel in Africa, or the southern hemisphere.

In a sense, much of it has survived. Just no running trains nor stations functioning as rail stations. OK, they picked up the rails but the former right of ways are clearly visible.
