Thank you! I am thinking of buying a FCB1010 to control a bass monosynth. Do you find it a problem that there are only 10 pedals available, and thus only 10 notes? Also do you know if it is possible to configure the FCB1010 to hold a note until another note is pressed?
@splootyvision
@splootyvision 4 күн бұрын
Hi - it is a bit of a limitation, but is fine for playing some basic bass lines. There are 10 banks of presets so you could effectively program each bank for say a specific song, with each bank containing 10 specific bass notes; this does add in the complexity of remembering which bass notes are programmed to which foot switch and a bit of practice as the footswitches aren't laid out in 'keyboard' style as such. If you just want something to play a synth with your feet you may be better with a specific 'bass pedalboard like a Studiologic MP-113 (although they are about 3 times the price, which makes the FCB1010 a possible good compromise; given it can do many other things as well). In terms of holding notes, yep it holds the note for as long as you hold the footswitch down. Effectively when you press the footswitch it sends a ‘Note On’ MIDI message and when you release the footswitch it sends a ‘Note Off’ message - so it works the same as pressing a key on a keyboard. Hope that all helps 🙂

@splootyvision

Hi - In terms of doing this in Cubase you can pretty much leave the MIDI channel input and output to 'any' for each of the MIDI tracks, no real need to assign the actual midi channel that the hardware synth is set to. All the synths are connected to the pc via usb and you just choose the relevant instrument as your input/output for each midi track you set up. Hope that helps 🙂

Great vid ... but how do you switch the channels on your midi keyboard(s)?
@splootyvision
@splootyvision 8 күн бұрын
Hi and thanks. The hardware synths are all set to there own specific MIDI channels by going into the 'settings' one each one (it varies for each synth, but there's normally some sort of setting button/menu where you can set the MIDI channel for a synth). For the MIDI Keyboards (the Keystep 37 and the Keylabd 61) that you see me using in the video to trigger the hardware synths; you can change the MIDI channel on the fly and therefore which synth they trigger. For example the little Keystep 37 on my desk, you hold shift and then one of the first 16 keys on the left (which are numbered 1-16 corresponding to the MIDI channels). So if I press shift and the first white key I get MIDI channel 1 which triggers the MODX, if I press shift and the first black key I get MIDI channel 2 which is the Matrxibrute and so on..... Hope that helps and answers the question? 🙂

Is there a way to send the FCB1010 a signal to change the banks and effects through the DAW (I use Cakewalk)? I will be using different VSTs for certain songs for wanted profiles. When I load a song within the DAW, I want it to set up my FCB1010 for the song. I use a click track and maybe the FCB1010 could receive the sysex to the board while the click track is being played.

@@craigwojo211 Hi, not that I’m aware of I’m afraid. Sending a sysex file to the FCB1010 is a little convoluted as you have to put it in config mode (which requires rebooting the board) and then press 7 to put it in ‘sysex receive’ mode etc. The only way I could see doing it (for say a live gig) is to pre-program it before hand. There’s 10 banks, so in theory would cover 10 songs and if more needed you’d have to load another pre-programmed sysex during a break in the performance. Hope that helps.

Hi Graham, thanks for the help and advice. In fact this morning I decided to concentrate on the problem from the second angle. Instead of trying to find a foots witch which would do what I want, I decided that first I'd explore again how to do it just from Cubase. The result was that instead of Cubase trying to control the X32 I now have the X32 controlling Cubase! It wasn't easy as I don't really understand these things (I'm 73) but in the end I managed to get Cubase's MIDI Remote Manager to put Cubase into and out of record when I toggle the MUTE button I wanted to use. Whilst doing this I discovered a lot more about the MIDI Remote Manager as well, so it wasn't a waste of time. I was also pleased not to have to buy another piece of kit! Thanks once again, Ross.

Hello Graham, from a hot and Olympic mad south west France Really clear and well explained video. Will the FCB1010 allow me to do what I'm trying to achieve what I want using Cubase and an X32? I know how to use Cubase macros and LPE, and have tried loads of things, however can you suggest how, when I go into record, I can transmit a CC over MIDI to an external device . To activate record it doesn't matter whether it's as a drop in, a manual mouse click, with the keyboard, or CC121 footswitch. The specific CC I want is 70 on MIDI Ch 2. What I want to do is send CC70 Value 127 to my Behringer X32 mixer. This is the value that will MUTE the main outputs of the mixer. I want to do this so that every time I start recording audio (from a mic) the audio in the room is cut (so no feedback and no other sound into the mic too). Presently, as I activate recording, I also press the X32 Mute button to achieve the effect I want. Not such a big deal, I know, but it would be so cool to just start recording and have Cubase do it for me! It would be nice to have the X32 unmute when recording stops too. Pressing MUTE on the X32 and have Cubase go into record would also be an option. I know that the mixer transmits CC70 info as I've checked using MIDI OX but as before nothing I try gets me to where I want to be. I know I can send time codes to external sequencers or accept them back but the mixer doesn't have these options. 😞 (Win10, C13Pro) Thanks in advance Stay well Ross Anderson

Dependant on what version of Cubase using this should be possible with an FCB1010 pedalboard. If you have Cubase 12 or 13 then there is a function called MIDI Remote, using this you can set up the FCB1010 to operate the transport controls in Cubase. Here's a link to a video I made on how to set that up: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q7upZNJp2LncqnU.htmlsi=uvQaW2lNzkHUP4Er In this example the FCB1010 is sending 'note value's to trigger the transport functions. But......each preset button on the FCB1010 can send 1 note value, 2 CCs and 5 program changes simultaneously as well as controlling 2 expression pedals. So, for example I have my FCB1010 set up so that when I press preset 5 it triggers 'record' in Cubase (by sending note value 5), but I can also get it to send a CC value at the same time. Just did a quick experiment and set up my FCB1010 to send a CC value to a piece of my gear (my TC helicon voicelive) to activate an effect when I press preset 5 on the FCB1010....and it works. When I press preset 5, record starts in Cubase and simultaneously the effect is triggered on the voicelive unit. Therefore it should work for what you are trying to do i.e. trigger record in Cubase and send a CC to your X32 at the same time to mute the outputs. You should also then be able to assign a CC to whichever preset on the FCB1010 you program for the 'stop' button in Cubase to unmute the X32 when you stop it. This way you can start and stop recordings in Cubase with the footswitches on the FCB1010 and the X32 should automatically mute/unmute as required. Hope that all helps and made some sort of sense 🙂

Is there a way to program it to play a loop, or a pre-made midi track? Like if I wanted to start backing tracks at a specific time in a performance,could I have them programed in to the pedals?
@splootyvision
@splootyvision Ай бұрын
Hi there, in theory yes it's possible. For example you could have your backing tracks/midi tracks (or indeed audio loops) set up in your DAW and you could use the FCB1010 to trigger those tracks in your DAW. As an example, here's a link to a video I did on setting up the FCB1010 to control the transport controls in Cubase. With this I can start and stop the tracks in Cubase, select individual tracks to either Mute or Solo them and use the pedals to control the volume of individual tracks or the overall master volume. Effectively this has the possibility of turning the FCB1010 into a sort of loop station when combined with a DAW. There are a number of other vids from other people on KZfaq showing how this can be done with other DAWs as well. I'd imagine (although not familiar with it) that if were using something like Ableton you could program individual buttons on the FCB1010 to trigger certain samples/clips/scenes etc. Hope that helps 🙂

@splootyvision
@splootyvision Ай бұрын
Hi - its a mix of effects and elements within each sound, so can easily be edited for a clean tone if required. For example a lot of the organs have one of the 'amp simulators' applied in the effects section to give a bit of distortion OR there are some where the distortion is actually a 'sample' itself (individual sounds can have up to 8 elements/or different samples layered together) which again can easily be edited out if required 🙂

Hi - depends on what synth your using. For example, my MODX8+ has an 'assignable footswitch' port which is connected to the FCB1010 and I can use that to trigger the arpeggiator on and off. However, the Deepmind (which I'm triggering in the video), unfortunately I have to do by hand. It should in theory be possible through a combination of MSB, LSB and Program Change messages sent from the FCB1010, but I've never been able to get it working (I think the architecture of the Deepmind just isn't compatible with what I'm trying to do 😞)

Having said that, I love the MatrixBrute but it's a much more raw sound that needs taming ! Tbh I suppose it all depends on what else I had with them. If it were my 'only' synth it would be the PolyBrute as it covers more bases, if I already had a big analog VCO polysynth then it would be the Matrixbrute 🙂

@splootyvision Ай бұрын
Hi there, the devices are only connected to each other via 5 pin MIDI and not to the computer and therefore are not sending any MIDI data to the DAW. Basically I can use this set up without turning on my PC. If however I want to get the MIDI data into the DAW then they need to be connected to the computer in some way, which is where I use the USB connections. It's also worth remembering that MIDI is a 'one way' communication protocol i.e. data can only be sent in one direction on a single MIDI cable. In order for a keyboard to connect with the DAW over 5 pin MIDI it would need to be connected to a MIDI interface, which in turn would connect to the PC via USB and would need to be connected by it's MIDI in & MIDI out ports in order for the keyboard to both send and receive data. USB on the other hand offers 'two way' communication and can send and received MIDI data over one cable. Hope that helps and clarifies ? 🙂

Hi - open the preset browser in Polybrute Connect (to the left of the ‘preset name’ at the top of the screen there’s an icon, 3 vertical lines with one slanted line). Then either; 1. click on ‘Explore’ and then chose ‘Banks’ from the filters above the preset list and you should find all the installed sound banks to choose from. 2. Open the preset browser as above and then just click on ‘Soundbanks’ in the left hand menu and again will show all the installed sound banks. To get the sound on the polybrute itself, just click on the required preset in polybrute connect and the sound will come up on the actual polybrute. If you want it on the polybrute ‘permanently’, you need to save the presets in a project - in the project section there is then a ‘send to polybrute’ option. Hope that helps.
