Not CD but CA! in below comment

Oh yes, my 10" dob is "perfectly" aligned to maximize performance. Testing in red light, green light, I think academic. It's actual visual performance that counts and my SVX 140T truly delivers outstanding sharpness, detail & contrast with no CD. Vic Maris & his team truly deliver great performance.

I own 3 Stellarvue scopes SV70mm, SV 115t20; SVX140T All excellent Scopes but the SVX140T, ultra sharp and super contrast is truly special.. Easily matches the detail and contrast with no CA compared to my 10" dobsonian when viewing the moon using Pentax xw 10mm eyepiece & AP 2" diagonal. Hard to believe but true.

All that work at 633 in the red but what about blue and green?
@exif6839
@exif6839 4 ай бұрын
That’s a good question. SV optimized the configuration in green light too. So peak performance is at 540nm wave lengt. The behavior in blue and also red light depends on the glass material and configuration of the lens cell and focal ratio too. Due to SV is making triplet designs, the Strehl ratio will weakening in far blue and also in far red light. That’s normal for such a system. The so called polystrehl curve would be interesting too. But will be difficult to measure, because you need a zygo with different light sources. So the polystrehl is mostly a theoretical design calculation based on glass material and configuration. For perfect polystrehl, e.g. a polychromatic objective you will need min. four lenses, CaF2 elements, aspherical surfaces… and that will impact in the production costs heavy. The advantage of such a polychromatic system is that some cameras get an advantage in imaging. Visually no advantage will be visible. The hole in your money pocked would be visible much, much more😊 Under the line we can say,that modern triplet designs like SV deliver, are the best compromise vor visual and photographic use. Mostly compareable and on pair with other premium brands like TAK, TMB, LzOS ore else.

He would have received better points from me if he would have mentioned the Losmandy mount at the end on his 85. You'll notice that the industry should be in it all together, the great relationships forged on the giants this guy is standing on from AP ,TAK, TMB and TEC.

Your Artificial Star is surely way too close, that will induce false Spherical Aberration into the test. It should be at least 40 focal lengths away

This is similar to metal spinning to make metal plates and bowls but not as exact. I had to use a wood lathe to make the forms to press the metal into the shape using the metal spinning lathe. I did this to make a 3 tier serving plate in metal shop in high school. After I did the wood forms all the other students were able to use the same wood forms to make their own metal plates. I used 18 gage aluminum for the plates.

No surprise that my little 80mm Apo triplet Nighthawk always attracts lots of attention at star parties - everybody loves the beautiful colors it shows in the Pleiades. It can fight off lots of significantly bigger refractors!

Good video, though the difference between a perfect lens and a (non-existent) perfect diffractionless lens is that even a perfect lens puts 84% of the light into the airy disk whereas a perfect diffractionless lens would put 100% into it, there would be no diffraction rings.

I don't think anyone can challenge the statement that Stellarvue SVX scopes are unsurpassed in quality. However, it is sad to see that VM has given up on his stated company goal. He says that Sellarvue is a "small telescope company dedicated to introducing people to the night sky." Having a product line with a starting price point of $4500 will introduce no one to the wonders of the night sky. Once upon a time, a novice could purchase a Stellarvue setup for under $1000. While many notches below the quality of an SVX, it was a quality optical instrument and light years beyond what you could buy at Target. I still enjoy mine.

We optimize by figuring accurate optics. Messing with spacers is not going to magically make a high Strehl objective out of one that has serious spherical issues. In fact it seems like a crazy thing to do.
