Thank you for the tip about the 500 pixels on one side. Windows Accessories Paint on a PC seem to offer the same basic features, you can select part of an image that you wish to resize and change the pixels proportionally to resize the image, crop button allows you to select area you want as a photo image then click on crop to remove all the extraneous image, if its a book you want the book and a little white area around it and get rid of all the rest, I am only learning all this out of necessity.

Prints can be made from slides too. I have slides from the early 60's, me and my siblings posing with Native American children in Arizona. Also slides from POP (Pacific Ocean Park) when our family went there. The content of the slide is massively important. And if the slide is clear and of good quality, prints come out really well.
